We had the good fortune of connecting with Jill Simonds and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jill, how has your work-life balance changed over time?
Balance has and always will be evolving and a constant priority for me. Balance also means varying things to different people and there are many views on what it actually takes to maintain a healthy work and life. What it comes down to for me is prioritizing and making time for what matters, and serving the relationships in my life first. I think of it as fundraising for life – to serve and provide for what we enjoy doing together most as a family.
Success and joy from work to me is not about working harder or more hours.. it’s about working smart. Over time, I’ve learned I do not have to work to misery or burnout to be successful. I also choose work based on what I’m most passionate about – if I’m working toward something I’m passionate about, I’m fulfilled by that work. Working for something we’re not passionate about causes unhappiness and unnecessary stress.
One quote I live by:
“You will never feel truly satisfied by work until you are satisfied by life.”
―Heather Schuck, The Working Mom Manifesto
What should our readers know about your business? I am a strategic business and marketing leader in health & nutrition media, COO/CMO at PaleoHacks. I’ve loved every minute being with this company now for 4 years.
I’ve also recently co-founded a new ecommerce product for prioritization and productivity called the 80/20 Blueprint: The 80/20 Blueprint is the first prioritization system planner centered around the 80/20 rule. The 80/20 Blueprint’s prioritization framework will help you succeed at your business goals by allowing you to maximize effort toward the 20% that is actually driving the highest level of results. I cannot wait to get it in the hands of busy professionals everywhere! I’ve focused time and energy into this project having shifted gears and scaling back from my photography business due to the restrictions that came with COVID-19, and it’s been a welcomed and exciting change for me.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My husband, Greg. He’s my best friend, and biggest supporter. I draw constantly from his wisdom as a leader, a parent, and a professional. He always knows a solution forward, pulls me out of my overthinking, and truly coaches me to continually grow and improve as a person.
