We had the good fortune of connecting with John Epp and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi John, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I was in a transitional period of my life 28 years ago at age 32 in Salida, Colorado. I was housesitting at my parents and was planning to move back to Denver or even out to L A to continue pursuing my music ambitions. I met my wife and step kids and decided to settle here. I had limited job skills having been a professional musician most of my life. I was waiting tables, DJing, playing in bands, anything I could do to make a buck. I had to find a real “career”. A friend suggested I consider the Real Estate industry as I had good people and negotiation skills from leading my bands for so many years. I had no previous experience or knowledge of the business but decided to go for it.
What should our readers know about your business?
I have been a practicing Broker Associate Realtor for 28 years with the same firm, First Colorado Land Office, in Salida, Colorado. I am currently the Senior Associate. I have always strived to treat anyone involved in a transaction fairly and with respect and empathy, regardless of whether they are my client or not. Honesty, integrity, and patience and three attributes I bring to all parties in a negotiation. The benefit of years of experience and strong negotiation and communication skills are attributes I provide to my clients. Being available to my clients at all times and knowing the current market is paramount, particularly in a strong sellers market where you must be ready to act quickly and effectively to secure an accepted purchase contract for buyers. In my experience nothing that is rewarding is easy and I work very hard to produce the results I achieve for myself and my clients and remain pertinent in an ever changing Industry and market.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Living in a very cool Mountain town in Colorado our own Historic District is a very popular destination. There are many great Restaurants, Pubs, Art galleries, shops, music venues and a River Walk and Water Park all in downtown Salida. There are many high mountain roads, trails, and lakes that are beautiful for outdoor excursions. Sand Dunes National park and The Royal Gorge are a couple of attractions that are within day tripping distance.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother, Evelyn Epp, and my wife, Linda Epp, have been major forces in all my successes as a human being and in my business endeavors.
