We had the good fortune of connecting with John Moody and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi John, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
With 15 years of experience as a mortician and funeral home manager, I’ve seen how options like aquamation provide families with a more sustainable, natural way to honor their loved ones. Recognizing the need for that same level of care and eco-friendly approach for pets, I started Water Bridge Aquamation to offer pet owners a gentle, environmentally conscious alternative to flame cremation for our pet family members.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Water Bridge Aquamation is proud to be the first pet funeral home in the Denver Metro area specializing in aquamation, an eco-conscious water cremation. With my background as a mortician, I bring a unique level of care and compassion to our services, ensuring that pets are honored with the same respect and dignity as any family member. We’re here to support pet owners in our community during a difficult time, providing a gentle alternative to flame cremation to honor their pets’ memory.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
With all the options Denver has to offer, it’s always tough to narrow it down, but this friend would be treated to meals at Safta, Cuba Cuba, and The Crypt. We’d enjoy live music at Red Rocks, the Mission Ballroom, or Levitt Pavilion. We’d also take a free tour of the Colorado State Capitol, visit the Mile High Flea Market and the Denver Art Museum, and explore the RiNo district by bike to see its incredible street art. In between all the activities, we’d enjoy the green spaces of Cheesman Park, Washington Park, and City Park. It would be a healthy mix of great food, live music, and art!

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d really like to give a shoutout to the SCORE mentorship program. The mentors there have been amazing and instrumental to my success. I worked with several mentors, each bringing different insights, perspectives, and expertise that helped guide me through the startup process. I also want to recognize the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) and their programs—both SCORE and the SBDC have been invaluable in getting Water Bridge Aquamation off the ground, and I’m incredibly grateful for their support.
