We had the good fortune of connecting with Johnny King and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Johnny, how did you come up with the idea for your business?
A lot of people who have been previously wounded by an event or circumstance, find that they develop a deep connection with creating value that is in alignment with their healing. My journey is no different. Having been raised by a work-aholic father and a mom-aholic mother, I struggled as a young adult to understand what it meant to be a congruent, whole and masculine man in society. So it was because of the personal pain I endured, along with the tragedies I saw that men were inflicting all across the world, that motivated me to support other men in their healing.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I’m of the belief that even though we live in an era of unprecedented abundance, men and women have never been more unhappy since we’ve been keeping stats on overall population happiness. For this reason, I began working with women with their mental and physical health for 8 years and it wasn’t until the beginning of 2019 that I felt called to rebrand my business with the pursuit of working primarily with men.

Personally, it has been extremely challenging in my business over the last decade +, because unlike a business where I could sell a product or service that I wasn’t required to be emotionally tied to, working with human beings in the area of personal performance has required me to look into the deepest, darkest areas of my soul as well.

My mother passed away at 61 from cancer and she fought a lifetime of food addiction and feelings of unworthiness as a mother and wife. So for those first 8 years of working with women, was deeply enriching and yet, triggering to me and my mother wound.

Conversely, I didn’t have a relationship with my father until around the age of 30 and at that point, it was beyond toxic. It was only as a result of my father coming out that he was gay, that our relationship began to heal. By letting go of my own unreasonable expectations and hurts of who I thought he SHOULD have been as a father, I was able to begin forgiving and loving him for the man and father that he was.

Healing my father wound has allowed me to reconcile all the disjointed pieces within my experience and bring them back into the whole. It has been this process of healing that I have become the man I am today and the purpose behind helping other men to heal from their past as well.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
The thing I love most about living in Denver is the ability to balance myself emotionally between the city life and spending time in the mountains. For me, I absolutely LOVE concerts, live music, dancing, professional sports, museums, great food, and the performing arts. However over time, the up tempo energy that city life offers, demands that I escape to the mountains to ground myself. Being out in nature, smelling the scent of spruce trees in the air, sunshine, hiking and camping, are all activities that remind me what is MOST important in my life and not to get so busy that I forget to appreciate all I have.

So when friends or family come to town, I like to offer them a similar experience. We take in all that Denver City life has to offer and then we’ll also escape to the mountains and we’ll take time to connect with being outside. It’s the perfect balance between the masculine and feminine energies that life in Colorado offers.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
There have been many amazing women I’ve worked with over the years but a few key individuals who truly encouraged me to begin my work with coaching men. They are Laurie Levin, Christina Lecuyer and Christine Hassler. Within a period of 30 days, and without knowing each other, they each encouraged me to work with men.
