We had the good fortune of connecting with Jon LeDuc and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jon, what is the most important factor behind your success?
Perhaps it’s all about authenticity. Whether it’s a new song I’m in the middle of writing or a new landscape I’m in the middle of designing it’s always important for me to stay authentic. It’s too easy to fall into doing what you think others would want but the real art or creativity comes from the being true to yourself. There is a difference from not reinventing the wheel and constantly trying to chase and copy others success.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Earlier in life, I felt I had to keep my business life (Landscape Design and Construction) separate from my artistic life being a song writer and vocalist. I had some language and crude humor in my/our music that I wasn’t necessarily eager to cross-market to my landscape clients. It was important that I kept the landscape business professional and music was my outlet that I only let people I knew in on.
Come to find out both these things are me and me is the only thing I’m any good at being. So I stopped the whole “professional act” (still professional but in my authentic way) and I stopped hiding my music. Life is better this way and I think it opens the doors to success.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take them to a bunch of my favorite mountain destinations that aren’t over crowded because of posts and publications mentioning them. I love me some Rocky Mountains though!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My wife, Katie. Without her I would not have the time nor the recharges in passion to keep moving forward. She is not only a support source but an inspiration. It still boggles my mind on what she is able to accomplish with the same time I have.
