We had the good fortune of connecting with Jonmarc Radspinner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Jonmarc, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
There’s never a good time to start a business, right? It’s always inconvenient, risky, and requires sacrifice. My wife and I just had our first child in March of 2022 but the timing for starting Cultivate just seemed right. Cultivate House Detailing exists for a mission outside of providing a convenient and excellent service experience at an affordable price for our customers. We are working towards training up the next generation of service and trade professionals. Having been in home services for 8 years, I’ve seen the gap in the industry on two fronts. The first front is the lacking customer service and professionalism from contractors. The second front is that there aren’t enough trades workers to fulfill the needs of the market and not enough businesses doing anything about it. We are working to bridge those gaps and give back to our community through this.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’ve been in home services for 8 years as a franchise owner and a general manager in another franchise. There have been fun things about it and challenging things – it certainly wasn’t easy. It took grit to get through the start-up phase of my franchise and to get through the growing pains. Sometimes, it’s just a matter of embracing the grind for a temporary period and remembering that there is an end in sight. Now with starting up Cultivate, I’m embracing the grind of the start-up phase again. It won’t last long but it’s necessary to push through and focus on what’s ahead. I’ve found that anytime that I embrace the excitement and have a positive attitude, I’m able to solve the problems in front of me in a much more effective way – whether it’s employee challenges or growing pains of the business. I’ve also found that staying humble (which I will always be learning more about) has helped me relate to my customers and employees on a more authentic and human level. At Cultivate, we aim high. Even though we are in the start-up phase, we aim to become the largest non-traditional trade school in the US and to de-fragment the home services industry to provide a one stop shop for home services. For right now, though, we just do Window Cleaning, Pressure Washing, and Gutter Cleaning.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
The number one thing that I always tell friends visiting is to not go to all the touristy places in town – just go to a couple! The local spots are much better! Activity wise, we would go to Green Mountain Falls, Woodland Park, Red Rocks Open Space, Cheyenne Canyon, Pikes Peak, Manitou Springs, Downtown Colorado Springs, and the Olympic and Paralympic Museum. Food and drinks wise, there are so many places in Colorado Springs to go to. Skirted Heifer, The Wild Goose, The Rabbit Hole, Brooklyn’s On Boulder, Phantom Canyon Brewery, Cerberus Brewery, and The Ivywild School. All of these activities and food and drink spots have an eclectic group of people and environments that make for a well rounded Colorado Springs experience!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’m a huge advocate for mentorship, friendship, and investing in others. I wouldn’t be where I am today without the wonderful people that have chosen to invest in me – whether it’s in person or from afar through their books. My wife, Jennie, my mentor, Yemi Mobolade, my friend, Josh Mote, and many other people have invested in me and are the reason why I am where I am. John Maxwell, Simon Sinek, Patrick Lencioni, and Adam Grant have all had an immense impact on me through their books and podcasts as well.
