We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Clark and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
In 2017 I moved to Amsterdam knowing I wanted to make a career change. I had enjoyed my time working as a management consultant and loved my colleagues and clients, but didn’t feel fulfilled by the work. I looked back and recognized I was the most energized by my work at the startup I was at early in my career.

I bought a journal and started writing down business ideas. And after a few months, I realized that I couldn’t find a stylish yet supportive house shoe to wear as I was spending a lot of time working from home so I jotted this down. I couldn’t stop thinking about this as a business idea and immediately started researching how shoes are made and developing conceptual designs. Seeing what I wanted to set out to create, I established an LLC and got to work.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I set out to reimagine slippers for modern home life. This meant doing things differently. So many slippers on the market are fuzzy, frumpy, and the lack the style or support women in expect from any other shoe. Not to mention, they’re usually made from plastic or materials that are harmful to animals.

When starting Dooeys, I knew I wanted to create house shoes that combine style, support, and sustainability. I spent a year and half sourcing and testing sustainable materials which resulted in the house shoes you see today — stylish and supportive designs made using only plant-based & recycled materials like leather made from apples, sneaker-like soles made with sugarcane EVA, lining made from recycled plastic, and insoles with arch-support made from cork and recycled foam.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Being Seattle-based, I let my cousins who live in Denver be the tour guides but I have always loved getting out of the city to go to Breckenridge and hit up Tin Plate Pizza or head out to Boulder for a nice, long hike.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
A lifetime of inspiration comes from my dad. I didn’t fully appreciate this until I became an entrepreneur. My Dad grew up in Haxtun, a small town in Colorado. My dad worked his way through school, got his MBA, and landed a secure job putting him on the management track when he decided to take a leap and leave his job to partner with the owner of a struggling business and turn it into a very successful small business which he owned and operated for 45 years.

My dad showed me the value of hard work and the reward of owning your business. I learned success doesn’t come from the hard sell or trying to make a company as big as possible, it’s about serving your customers and making a great product or service that they appreciate and will return for.
