Meet Alison Fechner | Painter and Artist

We had the good fortune of connecting with Alison Fechner and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Alison, what inspires you?
Life and nature, but more recently thoughts and feelings. Bringing imagery and color to a feeling or a thought. I am inspired by music, simply just hearing lyrics or a sound, and then an image is created in my mind, sometimes undoubtedly. I see the world through a lens that wants to challenge and change the reality around me, make an idea come to life, because without my art, it could not exist.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started studying and practicing fine art at a young age. I focused mostly on realism and experimented with abstract art as the years progressed. What I believe sets me apart is my attention to detail, and my eagerness to share my ideas with the world. I transform thoughts and feelings into shapes, forms, and original imagery. I want to bring out the creativeness within others, and use it to transform lives and communities. I use my art to tell a story, often my own.
I am most proud of my art journey and the commitment I have made in the recent years to pursue it professionally while learning all the skills and intricacies of starting a business. I am excited about my future in pursing art and exploring new mediums, such as metal fabrication, welding, and photography.
I am still building my business, and it all started during the Pandemic in 2020, where I found myself halfway through an engineering degree, and deciding to change paths. I needed to stay true to my creative self and pursue my art.
No, none of it is easy, sharing my art can be terrifying while the technical and financial side of running a business can be overwhelming. Artists don’t want to handle taxes and accounting, not this one at least, but I’m learning as I go. I break down tasks and spread them out over time, and I am learning to be patient and compassionate with myself, my process, and the amount of time it takes to achieve my goals.
I am learning to be patient with myself and the process of starting something from the ground up. Some days it feels as if I am learning everything all at once, and I am learning how to learn it too.
I want the world to know me through my art, and the unique story it tells. I hope to inspire others to create and find the artists within themselves.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My favorite spots to grab a bite to eat or a unique cocktail are The Rabbit Hole, an Alice and Wonderland themed bar and restaurant, or The Burrowing Owl, my favorite vegan joint in the entire city! For great local entertainment, you can hit up Jives coffee lounge in Old Colorado City on Wednesday nights for their open-mic night, and finish the evening at Mother Muffs for great drink specials and the best bar food the entire city has to offer.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to my very first mentor and fine arts teacher, Mrs. Donna, who I had the pleasure to begin learning from at the humble age of eight years old through the Boys and Girls Club. As well as dedication to Mrs. Dipace, my high school art teacher. These women were more than mentors and art teachers, they were the leaders I needed in my young-adult life. My final dedication goes to my best friend, Seán, for all his love and encouragement. Thank you for seeing the potential and passion within me before I ever did.
