We had the good fortune of connecting with Jordan Priestley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Jordan, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
My journey to starting my business was never in a paid capacity. I first started making tips and trick posts on a blog to share with teachers across social media. This was around apps, ideas to try, software they make like and freebie resources that can help in the classroom. I initially did that for one year before I started in a selling capacity where I made a profit or some sort of an income. I wanted teachers to have access to resources and ideas in the classroom and wanted to give teachers time back. We are so busy and I know that there are always ways we can save time or ways to help us.

My business has grown exponentially in the past six years – now a 6 figure business that has sold over 50,000 resources to teachers all over the world. My main business message is ‘take back time for you’ and that by using resources and products I make, you will save time and energy in the classroom.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My career into teaching has been one of determination and drive!
I was at teachers training college where I fell pregnant to my daughter in my third year. I was going to take a gap year in my final year but pushed through and graduated with a 8 week old baby! It was important to me to finish university and get a full time teaching job so that I could provide for my daughter and family. I got my first teaching job and decided to go back and study a postgraduate diploma also to allow me to move up the pay scale faster!
I soon realised that studying was a passion (as well as all things digital) so delved into any study that was necessary to help me better myself! I now have multiple postgraduate diplomas, certificates, qualifications and two Masters of Education that have helped me better my career along the way.
During this time, I began my side business and used this to apply all of the learning I was absorbing in my study. Being able to make resources for teachers to give them back time but also to apply the skills, ideas and being creative for teachers and students! I have in my career attended and won multiple teaching awards, worked for big education companies, presented at country and worldwide conferences to share my passion and love!
Now at the same time as building my business, I was continuing to work full time and study full time. All a mix to show my determination, my drive, my passion and my love for education! It was challenging at times, juggling multiple things! Some nights I don’t actually know how I got through. In May this year, I resigned from the classroom full time where I now work on my business full time making resources and continuing to share my passion and love for education with the world. Being able to devote my time to better myself – makes me so excited for the future!

But I am here now, thinking back to younger me and never in my dreams did I think I would be where I am.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Here in my city, is the beaches and city! We have a lovely beach front area that has the best ice-cream shop and italian restaurant. The local parks and walking tracks are beautiful with waterfalls, local animals and wildlife that is beautiful to look at.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
The main person who has always been there for me and my success is my husband. A little cliche, but really wouldn’t be able to do the things I want to do without him.

We met online in 2014 and have been together eleven years. He has always helped me follow my dreams and passions, helping encourage me, work hard on my dreams and push myself to be even better. Whenever I have a crazy idea or business next step; it is so important to me to run it past him and talk to him about it because he really does know me and what I can do in terms of pushing myself. He always knows the right questions to ask and prompt to check in with my thoughts, plans and questions.

My husband has always been there for me and allows me to do what I love – go overseas for business trips, apply for more learning opportunities, miss dinner because I am in meetings. He always picks up the slack and never makes me feel guilty for it. I wouldn’t be able to do it without him!
