We had the good fortune of connecting with Rob Decker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Rob, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
At one point, I wasn’t able to walk due breaking my back, arms and collapsing my lung. But, I had to make the hard choice to get back into the gym, ride my bike to all of my doctors appointments and going for extremely challenging hikes. I may have risked further injury, but it was a chance I needed to take. I felt like it was the only way to get off of all of medications, to reduce back pain, amongst other possible benefits. Fast forward a few years, I had to walk from a secure full time fitness job to open up my own business. In order to help people on the scale that I wanted to, I had to stay true to my vision. So, I walked. My wife was pregnant with our second child, so that was even a bigger risk.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I run Kingdom F.I.T. (Faith In Training)from our of my home in Colorado Springs. It’s foundation comes from my faith in God and the importance of physical fitness to improve physical & mental health. I am very excited to help those that are ready to tackle the bigger issues of life, while using fitness as a vehicle to get there. This was born out of a failed suicide attempt that left me with a broken back, both broken arms and a collapsed lung. In order to live a relatively functional life, I needed to get back into training my body, spirit and mind. This was an obvious business model for me since I personally utilized it to get better and grow. The most challenging part is being patient as I build my business and ministry. But, the wait has lessons within itself, so it’s very worth it. The greatest lesson(s) that I’ve learned is that hope with never fail you and consistency is key to hitting goals of all sizes. My brand is directly connected to my story. Ultimately, it’s about never giving up. Trusting in the process will make you more resilient for all aspects of life.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Honestly, I would wait for baseball season and we would get in a Rockies and Vibes game, maybe even 2 of each. I would invite him to come play softball with me at SkyView and/or Cottonwood park. I just can’t get enough of baseball/softball. It allows me to be a big kid! We would attend a service at the Sanctuary Church and watch someone get freed from drug and alcohol addiction, along with hearing a powerful message. They offer a lot for those in recovery and the homeless community. We would also eat plenty of pizza that week from Slice420. The owner, Christian has a powerful story in his business was started, and I support that!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wife, Alyssa Decker, has played a significant role in my sobriety and my fitness business. Dr. Evan Money helped me get on stage to share my story and encouraged me to get onto podcasts. James Garafolo of LifeStance & Mark Mayfield of Mayfield Counseling for opening the door for me to get into mental health. Dr. Eric Sandras for making me a part of his speaking & recovery team at The Sanctuary Church. Tez Brooks for helping me write my 1st book (Almost done). Eric Cabrera & Walter Williams of Blitz45, as they love fitness and their community!Victor Marx & Jeff Crothers of All Things Possible Ministries, they are definitely a foundation that I believe in. Deb Phelan, Jim McMahon & Mike Jay for believe in him what I do. Johnny Joy of Mountain Country Radio & Nate Wilson of New Vision Recovery Solutions, as we have some awesome recovery work to do together. Finally, to everyone who has donated time, finances, equipment and prayers to Kingdom F.I.T. and the ‘Marc Scholarship’ program.
