Meet Josh Fuller | Creative Director & Founder

We had the good fortune of connecting with Josh Fuller and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Josh, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
If I’m being honest, the decision to start Matic wasn’t born out of a grand strategic plan. It was more instinct than calculation. I’d run a small studio in the early years of my career and always felt comfortable selling ideas when I believed in the work. From 2011 to 2021, I spent time in-house and at large firms like Spire Digital, Deloitte Digital, and health-focused startups which resulted in more range and depth.
In early 2021, after stepping away from a Head of Product Design role, I found myself taking on creative consulting work, helping rethink the booking experience for JetBlue and contributing to some other sharp teams. The conversations were energizing. Opportunities were showing up almost effortlessly.
After about six months I realized I was having more fun, impact and energy than I had in years. The market was strong, my hands-on experience was broader than ever, and I felt confident that I could shape smarter, more thoughtful solutions for clients. That Fall, I made it official and launched Matic Digital. It wasn’t a leap so much as a natural step forward. I’ve learned a lot since that decision – and many lessons I never could have predicted – and haven’t regretted a moment of it.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
The most common thing our partners seem to tell us – either when we’ve been selected as their partner or after working with us a while – is that we’re different. And that’s exactly what I want them to think.
We partner with organizations that are growing, evolving, or recalibrating, and we help them better express who they are and where they’re going through sharper brand positioning, stronger user experiences, and more scalable platforms.
What sets us apart is that we’re not trying to be the biggest or loudest – we’re trying to be the right fit. Our work is hands-on, thoughtful, and intentionally built to create clarity in moments that can otherwise feel messy or high-stakes for clients. And because we’re led by people who’ve been both inside startups and inside the enterprise, we’re good at translating between ambition and action. We, often organically, help our partners sort through complex internal processes that impact external efforts. The brands and websites we ship typically come with significant organizational alignment around purpose and value that sharpens the narrative for our partners and drives positive outcomes again and again.
I wouldn’t say the path has been easy. Starting and growing Matic has required persistence, pattern recognition, and a willingness to evolve. We’ve had to work hard to earn trust, to keep delivering when resources were tight, and to navigate the messy middle that comes with building something real. But the rewarding part is getting to see the impact of our work in the world. When a brand finds its voice, when a platform actually works the way users want it to, when our team feels proud of what they’ve made – these are the moments of payoff we focus on.
We care a lot about getting it right – not just the output, but the process, the relationships, and the decisions that shape the work.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’ve hosted many of these in my more than 20 years in Denver. I’d say there’s a few musts:
Tennyson Street – over the years this has become a go-to. I often hit Tenn Street Coffee and Books before school drop off with my daughter for something we call “coffee-milk”. Essentially I grab a coffee, she gets a milk. The block is bursting with shops, restaurants like Two Hands and Parisi, and even my barber is there.
For local activity we’ve got to take the Clear Creek trail out to Golden or into the city to stop at REI’s flagship store. This ride is one of the best I’ve found and most riders can do it no problem. If looking to get competitive the tennis courts at Lakeside are incredible since being redone a few years ago.
I don’t go out as much as I used to, but RiNo continues to expand and find new reasons for me to go. It used to be for the walkability between bars and restaurants. Now it’s mostly about the restaurants. Barcelona was a great addition. Super Mega Bien is a favorite. And Uchi is absolutely incredible.
In the summer I like to get away from Denver. A weekend in Winter Park is the perfect cure – we don’t have a place but at least twice a year we rent something for a few nights and go up for long game nights and take in the cooler mountain climate. It’s probably my favorite thing to do whenever schedules allow.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve been fortunate to have a few people in my corner at just the right time. One person I’m especially grateful for is Chris, a former colleague from my Deloitte days. When I left my last role, Chris has known someone on the JetBlue team and within three days I had secured a 6 month dedicated contract to support them. This opportunity set the wheels in motion for what would become Matic.
He’s been a consistent connector ever since, always making introductions that lead somewhere meaningful. Beyond that, he’s remained genuinely curious and supportive of what we’re building. We all need people who think of us when opportunity aligns, and Chris has been that for me more than once. I make a point to get to NYC at least twice a year – and try to buy him dinner on each visit when schedules align!
