We had the good fortune of connecting with Joshalynn Green and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joshalynn, as a parent, what do you feel is the most meaningful thing you’ve done for them?
I am a brand new mom, and I take pride and joy in being a parent. The journey of parenthood thus far has been so rewarding and exciting, to say the least. My son truly motivates me in unexplainable ways. So far, the greatest thing I’ve done as a parent, with the help of my incredible loving fiancé, is to set the example of giving back and going after your goals no matter how BIG or how small they may be. My service-driven attitude started at a very young age, and I truly believe that the best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of others. That is why I find it imperative to set a positive example for my son. Even though he is still a baby, I believe setting a positive example starts now! I am choosing to be exactly whom and where I want to be in life so he knows that he can do the same.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I truly believe my calling and purpose is to serve in many capacities. In all that I do, I seek to help others and serve in various capacities. By day, I am a full-time Talent Acquisition Recruiter, where I help people to meet their career goals. By night, I aim to empower women through my non-profit, Phenomenal Women Inc, and help people lead a productive lifestyle through my stationery business, Productive Designs LLC! I’d say I got to where I am today by going and growing through many of life’s adversities and understanding that anything worth having doesn’t always come easy. It has not been an easy road maintaining a balance between my job, my passions, and being a new mom. But, I’m reminded of my calling, my why, and my passions every day, which inspires me to keep going. Some lessons I’ve learned on my journey so far are facing my fear while learning to trust the process even in the midst of a storm. I’ve learned how to keep going on the hard days and actually slow down to rest and recharge when necessary. These days, it’s important to work on yourself and your mental health to be the best version of yourself for you and those around you.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Colorado has some of the best tourist attractions, places to site see, and visit. I’d suggest taking the light rail to get a clear visual of the city and the amazing scenery. Downtown also has some amazing spots to check out, such as the Rockies Stadium, the Historic Union Station, and the 16th Street Mall. Lastly, you can’t leave the city without checking out the wonderful Historic 5 points, an area in Denver that is a vibrant multicultural location with cool dining and nightlife. Soul food eateries, relaxed cafes, and many other historic places.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
It’s tough to narrow down who this shoutout should be dedicated to. Throughout my journey so far, so many people have inspired me in many ways. Specifically, however, I am so thankful to have the women before me and around me to learn and grow from. First, I’d say it’s the women who are a part of my non-profit, Phenomenal Women Inc., who help to uplift and empower me in many ways. These are truly boss women! Their tenacity, skills and drive is unmatched! Some of our volunteers are entrepreneurs, some received their masters, some are currently pursuing a degree, and some are wonderful moms. I can truly say Phenomenal Women wouldn’t be where it’s at today without my team and community supporters who continue to support my vision to empower, encourage and uplift the next generation of leaders. Next, I would have to dedicate this shoutout to my beloved alma mater, Miles College. Phenomenal Women, Inc. began at Miles College, where I received my Bachelor of Science Degree in Management Information Systems. Miles College gave me a second chance and believed in me when other institutions rejected my college application because “I didn’t have the grades, and I barely graduated from high school.” There would be no “Phenomenal Women” if I didn’t have the opportunity to go to college. I literally went from barely graduating from high school to graduating Magna Cum Laude from college. I will forever cherish my experience at Miles, the relationships I built, and the chance to get it right! Because of my beloved institution, Phenomenal Women Inc. stands strong today and continues to serve as a beacon of light! Miles College will forever be my educational savior.
