We had the good fortune of connecting with Joshua Kice and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Joshua, is there a quote or affirmation that’s meaningful to you?
“Treat a man as he is and he will remain as he is. Treat a man as he COULD be and he will become what he SHOULD be!” – RW Emerson
This quote holds a lot of weight and can break down into many interpretations depending on your perspective. My favorite application to this mindset is an internal assessment. I have the ability to influence myself more than any other person. Even when I think that someone else has influenced an action, a thought or an emotion, I like to use this quote to remind myself that it is still my decision to take an action, carry a thought, and dwell in emotion. If I am disappointed in my week for not getting enough done, I can treat myself poorly or encouragingly, creating a connected output the following week of poor performance or inspired drive. I have the ability to think highly of my product and business at all times, not allowing a poor review or challenging customer to diminish my value (which has plenty of research and expertise to back it up)!! If I treat myself, my company employees, and my business as the greatest versions of ourselves, there is always a positive goal ahead of us to achieve, all based on a current positive version of ourselves that we have been able to achieve… encouraging the next step forward in a perpetual cycle.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I studied art in college, which always makes people ask, “why?” I focused my studio time in graphic design and sculpture which lead to an early career doing branding and product design. I spent years in the commercial screen printing industry, a chunk as an art director and mobile app developer for an automotive company, a year and a half as a volunteer fire fighter, and plenty of odd jobs between. I was always wanting to get my hands into more than my roles called for. Being involved in business development meetings and helping startups with their branding created a desire to do all that same stuff for myself! I wanted to create something new, bring a fresh experience to consumers and use my talents to help others break away from the hum drum, and into an inspired mind of their own! Ink & Drink was an idea that turned into a full concept that turned into a plan and has now turned into my business! I have started a new, first of its kind business after several years of research and development. I am working for myself full-time and couldn’t be more excited to present my DIY t-shirt printing experience and bar to the public! Everyone has t-shirts and apparel in their wardrobe. Most of us appreciate finding a new, fun shirt to wear out to the bars, on a hike, and anywhere else adventurers could think to go! When customers join us at Ink & Drink, they get to print their own shirts while enjoying a cocktail from our full service bar. Our goal is to foster a creative, passion-filled lifestyle for our customers, employees, and community with apparel to be worn, an experience to take with you, and a memory to be made of the time your group of friends created custom made apparel printed by YOU!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Sheesh… lots of pressure here, but it does seem hard to go wrong with any adventure in Colorado! I love the town of Golden, where I volunteered with the fire department. Walking through the town, by the river, and in the foothills sets the scene of everything Colorado! I snowboard and have an affinity for Winter Park Resort! A favorite, summer hiking spot would be Adams Falls in Grand Lake! Some fun gems to hit include El Camino Community Tavern, Mythology Distillery, The Mountain Toad Brewery, and of course I have to promote my own Ink & Drink Denver!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would love to shoutout everyone I know, but this section probably doesn’t need to be that long! So, I will focus on; my wife, Sadie, for supporting my pursuit with a smile! My dad, Glen, for being steady and ever-present! My mom, Theresa, for showing that joy can be found in the grind of life! My stepdad and in-laws for being my biggest fans! My best friend, Pat, for being the best example of achieving what you set out to achieve! My brothers, Geoff and Zach, for being adventure buddies for life! My team at work, Paul, Galen, and my awesome employees for making the job more like play than work!
