We had the good fortune of connecting with Json Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Json, what do you attribute your success to?
I honestly have to say one of the biggest keys to my success in gaining opportunities has come from what I learned serving in church. Having a heart of servant leadership, and having the mindset of being available to aid help in other capacities has been key. The willingness to be able to take on what some may even seem as menial task makes the biggest of an impact to people, brands and companies alike. Some of my biggest opportunities have come to me from just being willing to go above and beyond and serve in multiple areas.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
When it comes to art my brand has always been about not only embodying a spirit of excellence but in standing out. When the culture goes right I go left. And finding unique ways of expressing myself, even if it may be somewhat unorthodox. I’ve always strived to showcase my difference between my peers and competitors alike. This of course took time to really come to terms with who I was as an individual and then I had to do more work in charting my course but have no regrets. Some of my highlights and fondness moments were in competing in multiple national slam poetry competitions, and evolving that talent to performing on stage playing at some of Colorado’s top venues.
The journey and pursuit in being an artist especially today is one of the most difficult decisions I made in my life but also the most rewarding, perspective shifting and self-reflecting. Many come in to The arts with a pure love and excitement were creating and expressing themselves, which I feel is the purest motive for wanting to do it. However in terms of business scale and expectations that pure intention oftentimes can get clouded with societies perceived idea of making it and What constitutes as success. What I advocate for now most of all is that each individual defines their own separate level of success. To preserve not only their passion but their identity and value as well.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
These days I really enjoy The more scenic scene. Things that involve nature and reflecting and making memories. I would definitely invite them to the botanical garden’s, or hiking trails near Red rocks.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Undoubtedly there are three people that have had a massive impact when it came to me pursuing a career in not only multimedia but in the arts. My high school librarian Ms Reba Holmes and my first mentor Philip J Curtis who not only encouraged me to pursue a passion in spoken word poetry and music In high school. But also took it upon themselves to research and find opportunities for me to compete in local and regional competitions which led me to becoming name Colorado’s youngest poet laureate at the age of 17. In terms of business in growing my brand and taking on clients for my media company My mother was vital. Giving instruction, support, and helping me build structure around my business to build a brand and scale.
