Meet Justin Martin | Professional Cyclist & Cycling Coach

We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Justin, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
Shortly after graduating college from St. Edward’s University in Austin, TX, I started an Allstate Insurance Agency. During that time period, I learned a lot from colleagues and the industry as a whole. Although I had a great career, my internal happiness level was suffering. I had been a long time Motocross athlete and racer throughout my childhood and into college, so I have always had a little bug in me that wanted to get back to racing. I started racing mountain bikes in 2016 and turned professional in 2018. Over the years, I have gotten to travel the country and race bicycles with some of the best in the nation. Through my cycling career, I wanted to figure out a way to give back to the community and make an impact in the sport. This is what led me to starting my coaching business, Stoke Haus Coaching. I am able to share my experience and knowledge with others and help them become the best versions of themselves, both on and off the bicycle.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Life is all about the journey and having faith in the process. The older I get, the more my perspective shifts and I learn to embrace both the highs and the lows. Nothing worth having is going to come easy. Being process driven versus end result helps keep my gaze towards the bigger picture. I have a lot of passion and stoke and it makes my soul full when I am able to share some of this energy with athletes that I coach. Helping someone achieve their goals means more to me than any one specific race result I have or will achieve. I believe that being transparent and telling my story, both the good and the bad, makes me more relatable to others and helps me standout amongst my peers in this industry. Stoke Haus Coaching is about providing quality over quantity in order to help give our athletes a path for success.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Moving to Colorado Springs has boosted my quality of life immensely. The landscape here throughout all of the seasons helps demonstrate how cool of a place it is. There is so much opportunity to explore this little piece of the Front Range by whatever means of transportation pleases you. If you are in town, you have to take a drive up to the top of Pikes Peak Mountain to give you a view of the world that is hard to beat. After coming down the mountain, stopping at Crystal Park Cantina for a bite to eat is a must. Ending the day walking through the streets of Manitou Springs gives you a taste of the rad culture that this little town offers.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would be absolutely nowhere if I didn’t have the support from my team that is behind me. My parents taught me to have a great work ethic and discipline to make the hard decisions. My wife, Lauren, pushes me to be my absolute best day in and day out. She is right by my side through all of the highs and all of the lows. The sponsors and partners I have created relationships with since turning Pro has made this journey even sweeter. Lastly, Nic Ponsor, owner of Criterium Bicycles, has not only given me an opportunity to work with him but he has also mentored me and provided many resources and tools to help me be the best I can be. There is no me, it’s WE.
