We had the good fortune of connecting with Justin Petaccio and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Justin, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
This is an increasingly important issue for me. COVID had already changed the dynamic of what is important in people’s lives, and then last year I became a father which really strengthened my desire to create boundaries in a business that can be hard to do so. That said, I also appreciate that my job provides a lot of flexibility for me to take off time to travel or do other activities with my family that I may not be able to with other professions. It’s a complicated balance, one that has no perfect answer, but it is important that I find the time to properly serve my clients and colleagues, as well as dedicate time to spend with my family.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
After six years as a loan officer at a mortgage bank, I helped open up a new mortgage brokerage here in Denver with my long-time friend. To our clients, we pride ourselves in being down to earth people in a profession that is often dominated by acronyms and insider talk. To our amazing coworkers, we just treat everyone like family. It’s hard to say anything is “easy,” but if you live your authentic self, it takes away a lot of stress of trying to be something you aren’t.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
A week long trip in Denver means you have to spend a good chunk of time outside of Denver. Obviously a trip to the mountains, maybe Rocky Mountain National Park or something up in Summit County. A day trip to Red Rocks (go to a show if you can swing it!) and Golden, getting lunch at D’ Deli and bringing it to Golden City Brewery. A night out in RiNo. A nice dinner at El Five, and a more authentic dinner at El Taco De Mexico. Ethiopian food at one of the many spots on East Colfax, and then ice cream at Sweet Cooie’s. Breakfasts at Denver Biscuit Co and Luicille’s.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Can I shoutout everyone? I’m a firm believer of “team effort.” My wife, wonderful colleagues, realtors, friends, etc, have and continue to help me improve every single day.
