We had the good fortune of connecting with Chloe Kibutzany and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Chloe, what are you inspired by?
Within the artistic swimming community, the thing that inspires me the most are my athletes. I coach girls ranging in age from 6 years old to 17 years old and the level of commitment and passion they bring to the pool never ceases to inspire me. At the end of the day all of these athletes have personal lives with school and work and relationships meaning their lives are busy and consuming. With all of life happening around them, each and every one of them still shows up to practices and works hard to learn the skills taught all with a smiling face. This level of dedication to our sport and to their own development inspires me and helps keep my passion for the sport alive.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Outside of coaching Artistic Swimming, I work as an onboarding consultant for a TPA and Recordkeeping firm. I began my career working for a small company in my hometown. After two years, I left that company and began working for the company I work for now, all while coaching artistic swimming. I think the biggest challenge that I have faced in my professional life is balance and time management. Attempting to be the best in my field at work, coaching swimmers to unlock their full potential, and maintaining thriving personal relationships can be a lot to juggle. At the end of the day learning how to balance the energy I give in each aspect of life has made a huge difference. In addition, learning to schedule my time (including down time) has made me more productive and more present in each moment.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If I had a friend coming to visit I would take them to the following
Activities:
– Lakeside – this is one of my favorite places to visit. It’s where we used to go every summer. The rides are a little bit rickety and some of them are downright sketchy, but the overall experience is always a blast.
– Hiking NCAR in Boulder – This hike isn’t too hard, but the views are pretty amazing
– Paddle Boarding on a reservoir – Saturday paddle boarding on a reservoir is an amazing way to relax and hang out
Food/Drink:
– Avanti in Boulder – this is a more high end food court. All of the food from all of the restaurants is amazing. By far some of the best shawarma and falafel I have had.
– Off the Hook – This is a food truck that travels around to different cities in Colorado. The only thing they sell is Fish and Chips but it’s the best fish and chips I have ever had
– Stem Ciders – They have pretty good food including charcuterie boards, but this brewery has some amazing brews and the atmosphere is awesome. The views are pretty neat here too.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to two very special women in my life. The first is my mother Kelly Hesse. Throughout the years that I swam, she was my biggest cheerleader and harshest critic. She always pushed me to be better than I was and always cheered me on while I achieved more than I ever thought possible. The second is my former coach Patricia Andreson. Patti was always patient yet demanding. She always pushed me to do more and taught me how to achieve my goals. She believed in me and made me believe in myself. Without these two women, I would not be who I am today and I am so thankful for the impact that both of these women had in my life.
