We had the good fortune of connecting with Kali Russell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kali, how do you think about risk?
I would say that taking risks is something I have never tried to shy away from. I believe the best opportunities can come form stepping outside of your comfort zone! It can be VERY scary, but so fun and rewarding to try something new. This has been monumental in my life many times- I moved across the country, I took a job with a major airline and was a flight attendant, and recently I decided I wanted to really put myself out there on social media and see if I can turn it into a full time career!
So far, I have never regretted the risk! It has always come with a reward- either a new journey, or a great life lesson.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I would say my life has definitely always been social! Ever since I was really little, I was never shy and loved being in the spotlight. I cheered all throughout school, and loved going out with friends, dressing up, and taking pictures! Being with people really brings me joy, and I LOVE to help others. I waitressed at a country club in college and would beg to get on the schedule for every event they held, and I also worked a retail job at Buckle and I really enjoyed helping people put together outfits and making sure they felt great in their new clothes! The hardest thing I have done is being a flight attendant. I had dreamed of doing it even since I was a little girl and had the big Barbie airplane. When I moved to Dallas, I felt like I was still trying to find myself and I felt sort of stuck, so I applied! The training was VERY intense! Working with so many people (both employees and customers) was so incredible- I met so many people from so many paths of life. I was able to go to several different countries, and hear more stories than I could ever count. It was amazing and taught me so much!! I think the biggest lesson that I have learned it IT’S OKAY to do something and “fail” or change your mind. There is no real “ready” point in life, so just go for it. Try it, and if it’s not for you, don’t force it! Life is for living, take risks, experience it all, and then decide. Don’t be afraid, but don’t feel guilty if you change your mind about what you thought you wanted. We (and the world) are ever-changing. Chase your dreams!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I am a big mountains girl, so we typically bypass the city and head up to the mountains. So given the option, I recommend going for a little trip up to the town of Estes. There are SO many things to see and do up there, and we love to support the small town and local businesses. Some of our favorite coffee shops are Kind Coffee, Coffee on the Rocks. As far as where to eat, the list is long! Our favorites that we always return to are Egg of Estes, Claire’s Restaurant and bar, Ed’s Cantina and grill, Lonigans Saloon, Smokin Daves BBQ, and Hunters Chop House (It’s so hard to pick just one!) We love to explore in the National Park during the day, and shop the local gift shops in the evenings. We have also rented paddle boats at the Marina, and rode the mountain coaster, which were both a lot of fun!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My shoutout is for my husband, Ethan. He has supported me in every single goal I have come up with, and always helps me chase my dreams! He is the one who has been pushing me for YEARS to start a blog and show more of my personality on social media, and has helped me build my site. Thank you!
