We had the good fortune of connecting with Kara Schaffer Sydney Baker and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kara Schaffer, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Funny Story; We never really planned on owning our business, but we believe we were in the right place at the right time TOGETHER. When the previous owner needed to move for her husbands job, we saw how giant of a hole us not taking over would leave in our city, and SLAM-ily (once you are apart of SLAM, it becomes your family). We were both members for years and saw how big of an impact it would make to see the Colorado Springs branch close. It is more that just “a fitness class” in so many woman’s lives. Its a community of moms who are trying to navigate motherhood, their mental health, and their fitness goals. Sweat Like a Mother gave us so much in our earlier years of motherhood, we both knew instantly it was our turn it give back just a small piece of what we gained of the years of our memberships.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
All of our trainers are AFAA certified, have a love for fitness, we meet woman and moms wherever they are at. We are trained to keep you moving during pregnancy, post postpartum, and every level of fitness. We love to work with moms & their kids. We create a safe environment for kids of all ages, and love every minute of it.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
We love getting outdoors and seeing all that this beautiful state has to offer. Garden of the Gods has so many greats hikes that can take you away from the “beaten path’. We love Manitou Springs, just taking a stroll up the main street, great food and atmosphere at The Townhouse resturant, the penny arcade for the kids (and honestly the grown ups as well) Red Leg brewery offers great food, drinks and a space for the kids to run free, while still contained.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Alexa Smith, Founder of S.L.A.M. The Mom who started it all. Over the past 13 years, and with locations across the world, shes inspired so many women with a place to call home no matter where they are living or SLAM-ing.
