Meet Sam Larson

We had the good fortune of connecting with Sam Larson and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Sam, do you disagree with some advice that is more or less universally accepted?
‘Say yes to everything.’ I can agree with this for some reasons, but deep down I disagree with it. I understand the importance of taking advantage of opportunities that come your way, especially at the beginning of your career, but it can also become a slippery slope when it comes to then also having a work/life balance. You teach people how to treat you, and if you’re always saying yes and bending over backwards, then that’s what people will always expect from you.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve known since I was in middle school that I wanted to work in the beauty world. I didn’t know what exactly I wanted to do, but I’ve always had a passion for hair/makeup/skin, but more importantly I’ve always had a passion for making people feel good. When people sit in my chair my number one priority is that they feel welcomed, accepted, and like they can show up however they need. Getting your hair done is a luxury experience, and I always want people to leave feeling refreshed and rejuvenated, and that can look different for everyone. I always want to provide an authentic and welcoming space for people to be 100% themselves.
And I think I’m most proud of the authenticity that I bring to my business. My clients know who I am to my core, and I believe that is shown through how I operate my business as well.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Near my salon – Otis Coffee

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I worked at an incredible salon at the beginning of my career that really set me up for success. Carbon Salon in Longmont, CO is owned by two incredibly driven people, Richard & Amanda Newcomb, and I cannot thank them enough for the opportunities that they provided me with while working for them.
