We had the good fortune of connecting with Karen Percival and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karen, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Finding joy in the journey is essential to my sucess. When I enjoy what I am doing it fills me with the confidence to keep creating, to try new things, explore opportunities with an open mind, and continually put myself and my brand out there in innovative ways. It’s the key to my success, my wellbeing, and the reason I started my business.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I hand craft intention based gemstone jewelry. The necklaces and bracelets I make are also known as Mala jewelry. Mala means meditation garland and that is what the traditional use of these gorgeous pieces of jewelry is for. At Bella Bead Shoppe we combine this beautiful ancient art form with a mindful modern approach. We believe what you focus on expands in your life and it is our passion to share this practice with others. We work with real gemstones; each one has its own unique and uplifting meaning. The goal is to feel good, and we appreciate and value how you choose to do that, whether that’s through meditation your belief in gemstone energy healing, or simply because you love how this pink bracelet looks! I don’t have what many might consider a serious meditation or spiritual practice but intention setting really resonates with me and that is how my passion for gemstones and beading began.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My itinerary would include some stand up paddle boarding, an outdoor yoga class, a concert at Red Rocks,  and a visit to some really good sushi and Mexican spots downtown.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Bella Bead Shoppe started as a side hustle, it’s grown into my full time passion project with the help of my husband, Charlie Percival, who now plays an integral role as our sales director or more affectionately, our Mala Man, who spends every weekend working our farmers markets and seasonal events.

A special shout out to my Mom, Jo-Ann Esrick, who has been a Bella Bead Shoppe supporter since day one and didn’t bat an eyelash when I told her I was quitting my job and going full time with my passion. She even took initiative to start beading herself!

Shout out to my brother, Matt Esrick, who launched the first Bella Bead Shoppe website and always encourages me (in not so subtle ways) to go BIG, and is an entrepreneur himself.

We also want to shout out all of our amazing retail partners, especially the Williams Family and their amazing staff at The Local. They gave Bella Bead Shoppe our very first retail opportunity and we have been in store with them for over seven years!
