We had the good fortune of connecting with Karina Asitimbay and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Karina, what do you want people to remember about you?
This can be such a jam packed question, but I really hope to be remembered by the great friend who captured great pictures. I want there to be an emphasis on the word friend because a friend is typically someone you feel comfortable with. I want people to feel comfortable with me and in front of my camera. I want their experiences to be memorable along with the photos they receive. I want people to KNOW and FEEL how much I care for them, and how much I am rooting for their love. If you were to ask them, I’d hope and smile to hear something along the lines of: “she made us feel so comfortable, we thought being in front of the camera would be weird but she made all of that go away. She captured our love just as our love is, it was beautiful to see her create this safe space for us while capturing great images.’
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love people, and I really love, love. I am not the same as others, and I would say I am an introvert yet an extrovert. I know…confusing. I wouldn’t say I put myself out there a lot but I have gained a confidence in meeting amazing people and hearing their story, and that brings the best out of me. Meeting new individuals hearing their story, where they are from, the food they enjoy anddd allllll the good stuff. I love finding common things and I am just really interested in YOU and who you are! I am mostly proud of my whole entire business, I NEVER EVER EVER thought this is what would come out of me wanting a camera for Christmas. I loved photos, loved taking selfies, loved taking phone photos of people, but I really did not think I would be meeting 90+ people a year. ANDDDD some of those being my ‘regulars’ who come back year after year for new milestones they are meeting. And they want ME to capture it, ME! Yeah, out of all the amazing talented people they continue to come back to ME. That is something that literally gives me life. There were/are so many challenges that I face, but I have gotten better at facing those challenges. What I tell myself is: “I don’t know why, I may never know why but God did that for a reason and I just have to trust that” this keeps me sane, and allows me to continue to be the best version of myself because without saying those things I might hold onto things longer than I would like. But trusting Him is what keeps me in the right direction. I’d like the world to know that I have your back, and that I hear you and that if you are wanting to be a creative to do it, and to go against what the world may be telling you, if everyone around you is doubting you, prove them wrong. You definitely have someone rooting for you … and that would be me.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My shoutout is to Jesus, my parents, my brother, my fiancé and all the amazing people I have met along this journey & lastly coffee. First and foremost I would be nothing without Jesus. My parents of course for bringing me into this world and sparking a creative mind in me to want to follow my dream of being a photographer. My brother for being my muse and for getting up even though he did not want photos taken but got up just to help me capture my vision. My fiancé for purchasing my first ‘big’ camera off of Amazon and always telling me ‘you got this!’ OF COURSE all the individuals who have been in front of my camera lens I would not be as successful without you all. You all have shaped the photographer I am today. Lastly, coffee. Coffee for getting me through traffic hour on the way to a session, and for getting me through long editing nights or long rides back from a session.
