We had the good fortune of connecting with Abby Seals and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Abby, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
Midwestern Roots, Lasting Values
I grew up in Gaston, Indiana—a town so small that when people ask, I usually just say I’m from nearby Muncie. Some recognize it from Parks & Recreation or its brief spotlight on Armed & Famous.

Life in a small town taught me the value of community, hard work, and building genuine relationships. These lessons didn’t just stick with me—they shaped who I am. They’ve become the foundation of how I do business: with integrity, connection, and a strong moral compass.

Every day, I bring those Midwestern values into my work, and I believe that grounding has made all the difference.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I often say that hair is my form of living, moving, 3D art. It’s my creative outlet—an evolving canvas where I get to design custom colors, shapes, and styles to enhance not just how my clients look, but how they feel.

I started my cosmetology career at 16, and now, at 32, I’ve spent exactly half my life perfecting my craft. Over the years, I’ve grown with the trends, built lasting connections, and, like anyone in a creative field, faced my fair share of challenges. I’ll never forget the time I turned a client’s hair green. Not my proudest moment—but I stuck with it, learned from it, and never made that mistake again.

Hair isn’t always easy. There are moments that test your confidence and make you question your path. But every tiny step forward—every mistake, every lesson—adds up. And suddenly, you realize you’re miles closer to your dream than you ever thought possible.

My passion for leadership and creating a space of growth took root back in Indiana, when I managed my local salon. That role lit a fire in me—I loved mentoring my team, helping them stay motivated, and watching them thrive.

In October 2023, I took a big step toward my own dream and opened AbbySealsHair, my salon suite located in Cherry Creek Shopping Center, Colorado. It’s been an incredible experience curating a space that reflects both my artistry and my commitment to making every client feel their best. And this is just the beginning—my goal is to one day open a full salon with a team of talented stylists, building something beautiful together.

My brand is more than surface level aesthetics, I want to acknowledge the beauty from the inside out. I strive to create a brand that brings people together, creating a safe place to talk about our lives, to laugh together to cry together. The human experience can be so hard but yet we keep finding the beauty and the joy in it everyday. I want my people to feel welcome, to feel confident, respected, valued, and to know how impactful their presence is.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When my best friend comes to town, the week kicks off with one non-negotiable: brunch at Denver Biscuit Company. Their Biscuit Pot Pie with veggie filling is a top-tier comfort food experience—flaky, hearty, and soul-hugging in the best way.

From there, we head west for a refreshing hike on the scenic trails at Red Rocks. Nothing bonds you quite like a little altitude and a lot of breathtaking views. On our way back into the city, a quick detour to VooDoo Doughnut is a must—their vegan options are wildly decadent and absolutely worth the sugar rush.

The next day is about good eats and a mini road trip. We kick things off with a visit to Bull & Bush Brewery for Gabe’s Nachos—don’t skip the Impossible meat upgrade. Then we’re off to Colorado Springs to soak in the beauty of Seven Falls or, if we’re feeling ambitious, take on the legendary Manitou Incline.

We close out the trip in style with dinner in RiNo at Barcelona Wine Bar. The tapas are amazing, but let’s be real—we’re there for the red sangria, hands down the best I’ve found anywhere.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Last fall, I had the pleasure of connecting with Anna Hernandez, a talented photographer with roots in Indiana like myself. We ended up doing a trade in services, and I was immediately struck by her eye for detail and her ability to capture raw, candid emotion. Now based in Colorado, Anna is building a thriving photography business, specializing in weddings, engagements, and authentic moments between couples. Watching her grow and bring her vision to life has been incredibly inspiring—and a great reminder of the creative power of collaboration.
