We had the good fortune of connecting with Karolina Naumowicz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Karolina, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I was born in Poland but grew up in Chicago. Growing up in Chicago and being immersed in so much art, music and culture really shaped who I am today. You are surrounded by so many talented and creative individuals it’s amazing growing up in the city. From an early age I always knew I wanted to do something creative but I was just so lost. I worked in music for a couple years and it was so much fun but I knew it wasn’t for me.. When I moved to Denver I literally had no idea what I was going to do with my life but I had this voice in the back of mt head that was like “hey you should do hair, ya love people” and that voice was right. I love my job, I love that I get to be creative. I love that I get to meet new people. It’s a very rewarding career.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Being a hairstylist is not for everyone. You need a back bone and you need to be willing to learn and if you get kicked down get back up. Your first couple years might suck but I promise every year gets better. I’ve learned that people aren’t nice but you really shouldn’t let it effect your mental health. Work life balance is also so important to prevent burn out.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I always take my friends to Pho 95 on south federal whenever they visit, hands down the best food in Denver! Some other places I love to hang out our on south Broadway, highlands like El Camino and Rino! Another one of my favorite spots in Wrigleys in Golden cause it’s a Chicago bar with bread Chicago staples! Meow wolf is also a really cool spot, and bar standard always on weekend because they have the best music!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My parents for putting up with me. My best friends who always have supported me and have been on this wild ride of all my career choices, my fiancé who supports me no matter what and my family at Centre Salon.
