We had the good fortune of connecting with Kat Smith and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kat, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Staying Inspired. It is so easy to get comfortable and not even realize it. Finding new ways to breakout outside of my comfort zone and expand my knowledge has helped me continue to grow in my career and to grow as a human.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been a stylist as a whole for 8 years and I am proud to say I have been at Prodigy Salon for almost 6 of them. I am our salons educator and also a top level stylist. I am definitely a worker bee and I work very hard for myself and for my team. Furthering education in my industry is extremely important and its something I am very passionate about. After working at Prodigy for a few years the owners and team leaders offered me our Education Leader role and its something to this day that I don’t take for granted. My career has come with its unique challenges juggling being a full time stylist, educator, wife, daughter, dog mom and friend. I have an amazing support system and without them I wouldn’t be here writing this for you.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I live smack dab in the middle of Colorado Springs and the nice thing is, you don’t have to drive very far to get to an awesome place! Places to visit: Cheyenne Mountain Zoo (If its around Christmas time the lights and beautiful!), take a beautiful hike through Garden of the Gods, Colorado Wolf and Wildlife Center, the Lantern Tour at Cave of the Winds (If you aren’t claustrophobic), Manitou Springs for the shops, Peak Bowl (I call this the dad bowling alley they play classic rock and its just a good time),Old Colorado City for the shops and Gold Camp road has some great hiking spots and views! Places to eat: For breakfast, Urban Egg, Black Bear Diner, Snooze, Omelette Parlor, Wayfinder Coffee Co., Javalato Gelato & Cafe, Loyal Coffee Roasters. For lunch/dinner: Erickberto’s (I am a California girl and there is nothing I miss more then good fast Mexican food and this is the BEST, seeing as its sister store is from Escondido, CA), Red Gravy, AI sushi, Texas Roadhouse, Four by Brother Luck, Poor Richards (they also have the cutest gift shop attached to it!), Dos Santos and Piglatin Cocina, Cheba Hut and Rooster Ramen. Dessert: Decadent Dessert (Its everything you’ll need , trust me.) Drinks: Bird Tree Cafe, Pub Dog, Jack Quinns, Supernova Bar and Arcade.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I owe a tremendous amount of my success to the owners and team at Prodigy Salon. The owners have put so much time and energy into creating a salon for myself and my team to have a beautiful creative space, career paths that push us to crush our goals and to make sure our mental and physical health are always being taken care of. Prodigy is very special place and I believe that whenever you walk through that door you feel all the energy and love it took into building it.
