We had the good fortune of connecting with Katherine Keel and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katherine, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
I have always enjoyed telling stories, and finding a medium through which I can communicate my thoughts, visions and dreams has been incredibly rewarding. I’ve always been a creator, and feel my work is best showcased through artistic expression and collaboration.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Professionally, I started out in a more “black and white,” traditional career mindset, where I thought success was defined in job title, salary and office size. After moving through a few different positions, I realized that I am more abstract than that and crave more variety in my professional life. I then began diving into whatever interested me the most at the time.

As a result, I’m a well-rounded generalist. I’m a collection of skill sets, an ever-developing story of interests, talents and dogged determination. At the heart of it all, however, I am a creator. A maker. A big dreamer with more ideas than can fit in my head. I choose various outlets through which to express myself, and photography has been an amazing opportunity to marry my creativity with the practical / financial side of being successful.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’m a mountain girl at heart, so most of my time would be spent in the foothills, trail running or biking as I overlook the beautiful city. Outdoor access is so easy in Denver, and I sometimes take for granted how little effort it takes to get outside. Food-wise, I’m all over the place with my favorites. Short list includes Milk Market, Izakaya, and Finn’s Manor. I love Williams and Graham for cocktails, and I lose track of time in Tattered Cover with ease.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Like I said, I’ve always been interested in creative pursuits (writing, story-telling, photography), but attending a summer intensive photography program a few years back solidified it for me. I went to the Rocky Mountain School of Photography on a whim, and was hooked.
