We had the good fortune of connecting with Kathy Antunez and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kathy, where are your from? We’d love to hear about how your background has played a role in who you are today?
I was born in Cheyenne, but we moved her when I was 3 so I have always considered myself a Fort Collins Native. I grew up having two really hard working parents who would work 12 hour days 6 days a week. I think beings that they both came from a different country; they migrated wanting to have the American Dream. Watching them, I learned that in order to have what you want no matter how long it takes, it ends up all being worth it at the end!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have been in the nail industry for 12 years and have been doing lashes and hair for 8 now. I think what sets me apart from others is the relationship I tend to build with my clients. I get to see them so often; that they then become long time friends. They know about my life and I know about theirs. Many have been with me before I was married and had kids; and it’s awesome to look back and see that they’ve come along in my journey with me!
I’m proud of where I stand today with my career and how much I’ve grown in this industry! I never thought I’d see myself doing this for 12 years now and still enjoy it like the first day!
I started in this industry because of an uncle who owned a nail shop in Fort Collins. I use to always get my nails done with him and just always was amazed with how the whole process was, that I knew that’s what I wanted to do. I think there is never an easy job and being in this industry it is always a struggle to build a clientele but also making sure to retain them as well. Patience is definitely a key but also wanting to be up there and wanting it. The passion to pushes you to put your name out there and get yourself known.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I don’t get out much in general because of my kiddos but I do love downtown Fort Collins! All the restaurants there are delicious and you can always find a place for a drink! It fits for anyone and everyone to go too! I also love Youngs Cafe if you’re into Vietnamese food! Best in town!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d like to dedicate this to my mother! She has always been my backbone and has always supported, believed, and encouraged me to be better throughout my life! She never wanted us to work the way she always had too ( from day to night). She wanted better and she gave me that! She pushed me to be who I am today and I know I could’ve never done it if it wasn’t for her.
I’d also like to give credit to my husband, my sons (Isaac and Noah) and my brother for being there always and being my supporters.
