Meet Katie Blondin | Colorado wedding photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Blondin and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Katie, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Work-life balance looked very different before I had kids. Back then, I could say yes to every session—sunrise, sunset, weeknights, weekends—you name it, I was there with my camera. I had the flexibility to hustle constantly, and I loved getting to try every type of shoot and meet all kinds of people.
Once I became a mom, everything shifted. My time suddenly wasn’t just mine anymore—I had to start being really intentional about when and how I worked. I couldn’t just drop everything and run out to a session anymore. I had to think about nap schedules, school pick-ups, and being present for family dinners. And honestly, that shift is one of the biggest reasons I decided to build a small business in the first place—I wanted the flexibility to work from home, to create my own schedule, and to still be present in this season of raising a family.
Now, balance means something different. It’s not about doing everything—it’s about doing the right things with the time I have. I choose weddings and sessions that align with my values and schedule. I set boundaries that help me show up well for both my clients and my family. It’s not always easy, but it’s 100% worth it. This business has given me the gift of doing what I love while also being there for the moments that matter most at home.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Hi! I’m Katie Blondin, a Colorado-based wedding photographer who believes that clear communication and a calm presence can make all the difference on a wedding day. My goal is for every couple I work with to feel seen, supported, and genuinely cared for—from our very first conversation to the moment their wedding album is in their hands (and long after that, too!).
Photography wasn’t always my career path, but it’s always been something I’ve loved. I first fell in love with photography in high school at Green Mountain, where I took film photography classes from sophomore through senior year. But like a lot of us, I took a more “practical” path after graduation—I earned my degree in Biology at MSU Denver and planned to become a medical laboratory technician.
Life had other plans! I met my husband during college, and within a few years, we were married and had our first daughter. That’s when I picked up my camera again—first to capture my little family, and then for friends and friends-of-friends. Eventually, that little hobby grew into something more. I dove into online education, watched hours of YouTube tutorials, and slowly began building what is now a full-time wedding photography business that I absolutely love.
Weddings felt like a natural fit for me. I’m a pretty organized, type-A person (spreadsheets are my love language), but I’m also a mom of four, which means I can stay calm in just about any situation. I bring both of those qualities into how I serve my clients—I help with timelines and prep, but I’m also the one keeping everyone grounded when the timeline goes off track (because let’s be honest, it usually does!).
What sets me apart? I’d say it’s the way I prioritize communication and connection. I’m not just there to take pretty photos—I’m there to make sure you feel relaxed, understood, and totally yourselves in front of the camera. I guide you through the entire process and take the stress off your plate whenever I can. The couples I work with often tell me how comfortable and taken care of they felt, and that’s the best compliment I could ask for.
Getting here wasn’t easy. Building a business while raising four kids has had its challenges (and a lot of late nights!), but I’ve learned to take things one step at a time and to give myself grace along the way. The biggest lesson? You don’t have to have it all figured out right away—you just need to keep showing up, keep learning, and keep serving people well.
If you’re reading this and looking for someone to capture your wedding day with heart, intention, and a little humor—I’d love to chat. I’m all about creating timeless, emotional images that feel true to you, and I’ll be cheering you on every step of the way.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my best friend were visiting in the summer, I’d be so excited to show them all my favorite parts of Colorado! I’d definitely plan a mix of outdoor adventure, great food, and just soaking in the vibe of some of our best local spots.
We’d kick things off with a classic Colorado day trip—starting with coffee from Beleza Coffee Bar in Boulder (because caffeine + mountain air = the best combo). From there, we’d head over to Chautauqua Park for a morning hike with those iconic Flatiron views. It’s one of those places that makes you stop mid-hike just to take it all in.
The next day, I’d plan something a little quirky and fun—lunch or dinner at Casa Bonita. I mean, how can you not? Cliff divers, cave-like hallways, and the most extra atmosphere ever—it’s a full experience and a rite of passage.
That evening, we’d head downtown to Denver and hang out near Union Station and the Dairy Block. We’d pop into a few cute shops, grab drinks at Blanchard Family Wines (they have great flights!), and maybe wander over to a rooftop for sunset.
One evening, we’d catch a Colorado Rockies game at Coors Field—even if you’re not super into baseball, there’s something magical about a warm summer night in the stands with a cold drink and the mountains in the distance.
And of course, we’d spend a day in Golden. We’d float down Clear Creek in tubes (which is basically a must in the summer), and afterward, dry off and grab food in Old Town Golden—probably at Buffalo Rose and also visit one of the cute breweries nearby.
I love that Colorado has so much variety—you can hike in the morning and sip wine in the city by evening. The people here are down-to-earth and adventurous, and there’s just a laid-back energy that makes it so easy to feel at home. Honestly, one week wouldn’t be enough, but it would be a really, really great start.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely—my husband deserves a huge shoutout. He’s been my biggest cheerleader from the very beginning, encouraging me every step of the way, especially on the days when I doubted myself. Whether it was watching the kids so I could shoot a wedding or helping talk through big business decisions late at night, he’s always been in my corner. His support has allowed me to grow this dream of mine into a full-time business, and I honestly couldn’t have done it without him. I’m incredibly grateful for the steady encouragement, honest feedback, and love he brings into every part of this journey.
