We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katie, what do you attribute your success to?
I kept going. When everyone else was growing faster than me, I kept going at my own steady pace. I didn’t let the success of others appear as my own failures. I grew on my own terms so I would have an audience that was authentic and engaging.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m really proud of so many things in my life thus far. I got married at 21 and had a baby at 22 and I could just feel the eyes of the world around me and their judgement that I had wasted my 20’s, but that couldn’t be less true. Being a mom and the matriarch of my family is my most important role and my calling in this world, I know it. But I’m the type who gets a little antsy so I continued with my sales job part time after my oldest was born. It gave me purpose and got me out of the house, and I was good at it. I started creating content online that I was passionate about it, to an audience that I had curated myself, and I was good at it. It grew and grew and grew and soon I was making a full time income. After my second baby I did not return to my sales job and pursued content creation full time. I surprised even myself with my success in that because I had created something that was all mine, on my own terms, and I loved it. I worked with huge brands like Toyota, Feld Entertainment, Google, Hyatt, Kroger, Mitsubishi, and more. Then, one day, the phone rang and it was my old boss offering my dream sales job, managing the team. I couldn’t turn it down so I took it, I loved it, and I was good at it. I grew from managing one studio to two. We survived a comeback after getting shutdown due to the pandemic. I’m so proud of all of it. Every piece of it. I even keep content creating as much as I can on the side to fulfill my passion for it and keep my audience engaged. It’s been a crazy ride but I wouldn’t change it for anything.

I think what might set my professional story apart from others is that I’m “good” at a lot of things but it comes from hard work. My parents always taught me to apply myself fully to everything I do and to use it to bring glory to God. If I’m going to create content, I’m going to do it to the best of my ability. If I’m going to manage sales teams, I’m going to do it to the best of my ability. You can never truly fail if you are trying your best.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
One of my favorite parts of living near Denver is how close we are to the mountains! I love Summit County, specifically Breckenridge and Keystone. My in-laws have a time share in Breck and I’ve fallen in love with the town over the years. We would go in the winter so we could see the Ice Castles, visit the crepe stand for a Strawberry Nutella Crepe, and maybe try tubing at the Frisco Adventure Park.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Oh, man! There are so many great bloggers and content creators that inspired me to start doing it myself all those years ago. Facebook groups with other content creators were my best friends and how I learned so much about the industry.

I love the book Crucial Conversations and I’m in the middle of taking an online course that goes with it. It’s really challenged me to re-evaluate how I communicate with my team and how I can do it better.

For my day job managing sales there are so many people who have inspired me and trained me. My old manager who had the job before I did, the owner of the franchise that I work for, and so many others, have encouraged me and pushed me and believed in me. They’re the reasons I never stop learning and growing.

My parents, my siblings, my friends, and especially my amazing husband who supports me in everything I do, and helps a ton behind the scenes. The people who love and support you will cheer for you every step of the way. Make sure you always cheer for them back.
