We had the good fortune of connecting with Katie Evans and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katie, why did you pursue a creative career?
I feel like it has just always been in my blood to do what I can to be creative. I go through a lot of phases where I want to learn how to do something brand new that I have never done before. It’s something I like about my personality but also get really frustrated with. I’m always wanting to learn how to make something new and there’s just something great about seeing something you have created with your own hands.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I started baking things from my apartment when I was in college at Auburn University, just because I thought it would be fun and wanted to see what all I could create. After a few rounds of trying to perfect a cheesecake, I got my recipe down and took it home for my family to try. After some pretty darn positive reviews and a few encouraging comments on how I should sell them for holidays, I said “Say no more!”. So that’s what I began doing. Holidays would come around and I would started writing down orders and my kitchen counters would be covered in ingredients for weeks. This quickly grew in to people asking me for different baked items for events all year round, which I gladly obliged to. Of course, I have had my moments filled with stress, time crunches, unexpected mistakes and everything else that comes along with something like this, but it always ends up being worth it. Baking from the love and comfort of my own home for people all over my city has been incredible, but I am excited to grow my brand and business. I am at a stage now where I am ready to look for locations to take it even further. I am not totally sure what that will look like yet, but I am excited for what is ahead for me!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would literally just take them to Snarfs every day.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are tons of people that have supported and loved me through this time in my life! I’m super blessed and lucky to have a wonderful family and a tight knit group of friends that always encourage me to go after what I want. Their faith in me, when I don’t even have faith in myself, keeps me going and I’m so grateful for them and the customers that have supported me over and over throughout these years!
