We had the good fortune of connecting with Katrina Rogers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Katrina, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
When I was first starting out in the fitness industry I was set on serving as a strength and conditioning coach to athletes. After all I had been an athlete since I was 10 years old and a coach for over 15 years. So I thought this would be a great addition. However, as many know our true calling is often one that come about through happen stance. As was the case with me. I began training at the YMCA and served a variety of clients, non athletes. As we began their fitness programs I noticed that many people were unable to perform the exercises, not because they were not capable. Simply because they really had no body awareness and were riddled with movement pattern disfunctions. They lacked body awareness and mort importantly control. I began to realize they stopped having a relationship with their body and I would be doing them a disservice proceeding with the original plan. So I set out to improve my education to help other people who were experience high levels of pain, stiffness and discomfort. I learn about medical exercise and other modality that helped correct this patterns of disfunction. I soon discovered a whole group of people who felt stuck and unsure how to proceed forward. I have made it my mission to create programming to support all bodies who are filling stuck and want to move with a sense of freedom and ease.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I’m in the business of movement and healing. I love working with individuals who feel stuck, embarrassed and are in pain; overcome their fears and distrust in their bodies capabilities. I love helping people feel alive, energized and excited about being physically active. I’m incredibly proud of our approach to fitness and movement. We want people to feel that having an active lifestyle is possible for them. We are creating movement practices built on trust, communication, community and most importantly exploration. We want all our clients to feel they belong and that whatever they are experiencing we can help them. Many of our clients are frustrated with themselves and their bodies and often feel there is no way forward. They feel like working out is chore. So we are creating ways for people to feel excited about moving and challenging their bodies so they can discover what they bodies are truly capable of.

I understand greatly what my clients experience. I have been flat-footed and knocked kneed my whole life and thought that was just the cards I was dealt. I developed knee pain, hip and lower back pain over my 20+ years as an athlete and coach. Doctors told me that if I didn’t want to be in pain, then I should stop the activity. I knew deep down this was not sound advice. So when I started my career in fitness, I found other individuals who had been written off, been give misinformation or never the proper guidance necessary to be successful in their health journey. I never wanted anyone to feel that way. So I set out to serve them better.

Like my clients, I have had to overcome my own obstacles not only physically but emotionally. The past 10 years of my life as been devoted to personal growth and developing more value. Building my confidence, trusting that I have a gift that is worth sharing with the world. I have learned how to seek and receive support in my life and go after my dreams.

I used to strongly believe that I had to bootstrap it alone to be successful. Whether that was achieving my own fitness goals or growing my business. I was constantly stuck on the start-stop-start-again then give up cycle and felt so much shame. Then I started to set into practice, the mantra “it takes a village” and sought out support. I knew to be a strong leader was to surround myself with strong capable people who strength were often not mine. And so now I strive to leverage the people around me. I am here today on the verge of taking my business the next level and opening up my own space to be able to serve 100s of people.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have fallen in love Denver area over the past 17 years I have lived here. There is so much to do, see and experience. Food and being outdoors on my list of musts. If I had a friend coming into town I would definitely take them to Crepes and Crepes in Cherry creek, then head over Cheeseman park for nice stroll, maybe even pop into Botanical Gardens while we are there. After words I would definitely say a drive around downtown and our historical neighborhoods would be well worth it. If we are needing a little outdoor time, a hike or two is definitely in the mix. Red Rocks for a show is surreal and an experience everyone should take in. I would also recommend doing on some of the self-guided history walks-as you get your steps in AND learn so much about the city. A visit to La Chiva for some delicious Columbian food should definitely be on the list of must. Then we must DANCE. There is Blues dancing, Swing, Tango, Salsa, Bachata, you name it, its here!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
