We had the good fortune of connecting with Kelsay Heath and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kelsay, is there something you can share with us that those outside of the industry might not be aware of?
I would say the general public are not aware of the money and work that a Real Estate Agent puts into the job. First to become an agent you have to spend money and time to pass two tests, the federal and state tests. After passing the test you have to get into a brokerage and register for your cities MLS. There are desks fees that come with every brokerage, which can be $300-$1,000 a month. Then the MLS fee can also vary from my experience its $120 a month with a $500 annual fee. Now this is just the start up fees, then you have to pay for marketing to get your name out. These are just the expenses but the time you have to put into understanding the market and getting clients. Real Estate Agents do not get paid hourly so as much time as you spend on a client will only be compensated by closing on a property. Getting clients is the key to our job, which is my favorite part. I love supporting people in their passions and all I want to do is help them find the property. People need to know that Real Estate Agents are here to work hard for you that is why it is worth all of the money and effort to become an agent.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As a Commercial Real Estate Agent I help people lease, buy and sell commercial property. I am also a Property Manager which means I take care of owners properties by maintaining the building and screening to find tenants that bring in income. I have made connections with people to gain trust over their assets or to find them property. It did not start out easy to build connections with clients, I have had many people use me for my hard work and burn me at the end. I have had to gain confidence and clear communication to have the success I have so far. I have learned to share with people that I am here to work for them and to have the knowledge to help them in their business. My main challenge from this job is being a young woman, I have learned to embrace that and use it to my advantage. I have used my knowledge of the market and the use of social media to gain a different prospective to gain clients. I would want the world to know that I am a passionate person that believes in people and my business is for them to utilize me.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Grand Junction Colorado is an amazing place to visit there are so many things to do here. Depending on what outdoor activities people like depends on where I would show them. During the winter I would take someone to the beautiful Mesa to ski on Powderhorn or to snow shoe through the glorious forest. Spring time opens up time to go bouldering out at Unaweep or just at the local bouldering gyms like Grip Bouldering. When it gets warm here in the valley it is nice to visit all of the amazing wineries in Palisade, I would start at one of the oldest wineries Plum Creek Cellars. More activities for the sweet summer in the Grand Valley are mountain biking, paddle boarding, rafting the Colorado river, or wake boarding at the local wake park in Fruita. Great places to grab a bite to eat are Taco Party, Ben 707, Devils Kitchen, Ale House, Munchies, Pufferbelly, Dream Café, and so many more. The best places to get a drink besides the wineries would be our speakeasy Moody’s, Peach Street Distillery, or Highlands Distillery. All year long the best views come from the Monument and it is even more gorgeous after a great hike.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would dedicate my success to my mother, Sheri Heath. She has been a Broker for the last ten years and encouraged me to become a broker. My mother has supported me and has been a strong hard working remodel my entire life.
