We had the good fortune of connecting with Kendra Stewart and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Kendra, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Entrepreneurship runs deep in my family. My grandparents launched a tool rental company in the 1960s, which later evolved into a hospital equipment rental company and then a successful party rental business that my grandma operated. Working right alongside my grandma, my mom then expanded the business further by opening a year-round costume shop—where I spent much of my childhood—before ultimately transitioning the business into emergency response equipment for the state of California. Watching the women in my family build and adapt their businesses gave me a strong foundation and a clear belief that I would one day do the same.

Throughout my career, that entrepreneurial drive has always been present. I explored a variety of creative outlets—from running an Etsy shop with handmade jewelry and custom invitations to working as an Independent Consultant for Arbonne. These side ventures kept my passion alive while I gained hands-on experience working with several interior design firms.

After over a decade of honing my skills in the design industry, I knew it was time to take a leap. In April 2021, I launched my own interior design business—finally blending my creative passion with my entrepreneurial roots. It felt like the most natural next step and a full-circle moment in my journey.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
At E+E Design Consulting, we specialize in creating spaces that are not only beautiful, but deeply personal and effortlessly functional. What truly sets us apart is our attention to detail, our refined process, and the meaningful relationships we build with our clients. We approach each project as a collaborative journey, one that’s as enjoyable as it is transformative. Our goal is simple: to design a space that feels like you—only better than you ever imagined.

We don’t just design homes; we create the backdrop for memories, celebrations, and everyday living. Our clients often come to us with a vision they can’t quite put into words, and we pride ourselves on bringing that vision to life in ways they never thought possible. The ultimate compliment is when a client is so thrilled with their home that they refer us to everyone they know. That’s how we measure success—we’re in the happiness business.

What I’m most proud of is the trust our clients place in us. I’m honored to be invited into their homes and lives, and it’s a joy to create something that reflects who they are. I’m also incredibly proud of the growth our business has seen. We’re expanding, taking on more exciting projects, and continuing to raise the bar for what a full-service interior design experience can look like.

Of course, the journey hasn’t been easy. Building a business takes resilience, especially in an industry as personal and detailed as interior design. There have been challenges—from learning how to navigate the business side of creativity to managing client expectations—but those moments have shaped who we are today. I’ve learned that contrast gives meaning. You have to experience the hard days to fully appreciate the incredible ones.

One of the biggest lessons I’ve learned is to stay true to myself. It’s easy to get caught up in comparison, especially in a visual industry. But comparison is the thief of joy—and every time I stay grounded in my purpose and unique path, the right opportunities follow. My focus is on growing with intention, doing great work, and bringing joy to the people we serve.

At the heart of it all, I want the world to know that E+E Design Consulting is about more than interiors—we’re about connection. We’re about creating spaces that elevate your everyday experience and building relationships that last long after the project is done. Whether it’s celebrating the final install with a cocktail (or mocktail) in your dream home, or mentoring future designers along the way, I’m here to create beauty, joy, and lasting impact—one space at a time.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When my best friend visits, I want to show them the perfect mix of Denver’s charm, style, and incredible food scene—plus a few of my personal favorite spots that inspire my love for design and hospitality. Here’s what a dream week together might look like:

Day 1: Welcome to Denver
We’d kick things off with a cozy dinner at Perdida in Wash Park—one of my absolute favorites for both the atmosphere and the food. Afterward, we’d take a sunset stroll through the Streets at South Gaylord and the surrounding neighborhood to admire the charming homes and leafy streets.

Day 2: Cherry Creek Shopping + Spa Day
We’d spend the day in Cherry Creek, starting with brunch at True Food Kitchen or Le Bilboquet. Then it’s time to shop—between the boutiques in Cherry Creek North and the mall (hello, Nordstrom, Anthropologie, and Free People), we’d find everything from elevated basics to statement pieces. We’d wrap the day with a spa treatment at The Now Massage or The Woodhouse Day Spa.

Day 3: Mountain Getaway
Midweek is perfect for a day trip to the mountains. We’d drive up to Evergreen or Vail, grab coffee at a local café, and take in the mountain views with an easy hike or walk around the lake. On the way home, maybe a stop in Downtown Golden for dinner and drinks.

Day 4: Interior Inspiration + Local Finds
We’d visit the Denver Design District or HW Home for some interiors inspiration (a must, of course!). Then head to South Pearl Street or Old South Gaylord for charming shops and casual bites. I love stopping at local floral shops or bookstores for gifts or inspiration.

Day 5: Art + Culture
We’d hit up the Denver Art Museum or Botanical Gardens for a bit of culture and creativity. Lunch would be somewhere playful and unique like City O’ City or Root Down. That evening, we’d enjoy cocktails and tapas at El Five, with a view of the city skyline.

Day 6: Wash Park & Weekend Vibes
We’d rent bikes or take a walk around Washington Park in the morning, then grab brunch at Syrup or Devil’s Food Bakery. The afternoon would be relaxed—maybe a glass of wine at Postino or some vintage shopping on South Broadway.

Day 7: Style + Send-Off
Before heading to the airport, we’d squeeze in one last moment of fun—a final coffee at Aviano, a last-minute browse at Evereve at Park Meadows, and a farewell lunch at Blue Island Oyster Bar in Lone Tree (a place close to my heart).

It’s a week filled with style, connection, design inspiration, and a little bit of indulgence—just the way I like it.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to give a heartfelt shoutout to my incredible husband, Nick Stewart. From day one, he’s been my biggest supporter—encouraging me, grounding me, and believing in me even when I doubted myself. His steady presence and unwavering confidence in my vision gave me the courage to take the leap and build my business. He’s my sounding board, my steady hand, and often the voice of reason when I get in my own way. I truly couldn’t have done this without him, and I’m endlessly grateful for his love and partnership.
