We had the good fortune of connecting with Kerryanne Kelley and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi KerryAnne, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
This has changed massively for me over the years. I spent my whole life as a hustler, getting my first job when I was 11 and spent my teens and 20’s working 4-5 jobs at a time. As a former Vikings Cheerleader we were expected to work full time in addition to our responsibilities on the team. I only knew working hard and grinding it out. The amount of burn out I was in was totally unreasonable for over a decade of my life and completely dishonored trust in anyone or anything besides myself in order to make things happen. I now know that if my mental and emotional health aren’t well and I don’t have balance in my life, nothing else will be great either. My joy and wellness is a priority first and foremost.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My life’s work has been studying trauma, body work and holistic medicine where I now get to combine by life experience, professional experience as a former motivational speaker, doctor’s assistant in a stem cell clinic, work as a trainer and knowledge of spiritual practices to help other people take leaps forward from their pain. I also spend a large amount of my time mentoring youth across the country through Positive Presence Global and continually see the need for youth and adults to have awareness of mental health, emotional regulation and tools to help them work through the experiences in their lives causing them pain. I started reading Tony Robbins when I was 16 and it kickstarted me on a journey of personal development and trauma healing. In addition to studying psychology in college, I’ve read over 600 books spanning holistic medicine, alchemy, trauma work, relational work and communication that have given me the ability to show up with an armoury of tools to bring to clients. I grew up with two disabled and abusive parents and subsequently developed a 13 year long eating disorder, self harmed and tried to commit suicide when I was 19 years old – and found myself in abusive and narcissistic relationships as an adult because of unhealed wounds. I also have had some highs along the way of becoming National American Miss Teen Colorado, being a captain for the Minnesota Vikings Cheerleaders and a professional speaker for over a decade. Through nearly 30 years of therapy, plant medicine and regular EMDR work – I’ve found a massive amount of healing and peace that has allowed me to restore my radiance and teach others the tools I’ve learned along the way to help them along their journeys. What I’ve learned along the way is that life is about more than what we’ve been through, its about coming back to who we naturally are and always were – returning to our innocence. I’m currently working on two books – one a life memoir with all the lessons I’ve learned along the way, and one to help people move through eating disorders. I want the world to know that my story is a reflection of all of our stories – we all go through some crazy highs and lows – we’re so much more resilient than we ever give ourselves credit for and no matter what you’ve gone through you can always find your joy and innocence again.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take my best friend to Mount Sanitas for a hike, then to the art district on Santa Fe to check out all the local creations, a good walk around Wash Park followed by dinner at Perdida. We’d have to stop in Somebody People for the most epic vegan meal and the world’s best chocolate chip cookie they have there and then go to Honey Elixer for a nice NA bev to end the evening.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
National American Miss was where I got my start. My childhood was extraordinarily traumatic and becoming National American Miss Teen Colorado in 2010 was the start of a life full of possibilities beyond my past experiences for me. I went on to work for the organization for years after that and got to share my store to kids and parents all over the country. I went back to judge for the pageant this past summer and it was such a full circle moment seeing all the talent and sparkle that the young women competing today exude.
