Meet Kiersten Mast | Newborn & Family Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kiersten Mast and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kiersten, career-wise, where do you want to be in the end?
By the end of my career, I want to be a fully booked, highly regarded newborn and family photographer. I’d like to be known for creating exceptional experiences that clients can’t help but recommend. My goal is to build a strong reputation rooted in trust, quality, and genuine connections with the families I serve.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
One thing that truly sets me apart as an artist is how I blend creativity and authenticity in every session. I’ve recently started hand-painting my own sets, especially for cake smash sessions. I watercolor large, custom pieces to bring each theme to life. From fairies to dinosaurs, these unique backdrops allow me to merge two of my greatest passions: painting and photography.
Beyond styled sessions, I also love capturing candid, joy-filled moments with children. Some of my favorite sessions include ice cream shoots, princess dress-up, playing in the snow, picnics, and other lifestyle-inspired setups. These sessions are all about letting kids be themselves, and those genuine smiles and unposed moments are often the most meaningful.
My journey to this point hasn’t always been easy. As a mom and a business owner, I’ve learned to navigate the challenges of balancing family life with building a brand. But those challenges have fueled my creativity and helped me stay grounded in my purpose. I’ve learned to trust my vision, keep growing as an artist, and always find the magic in the little things.
Through Our Life Photography, my mission is to create more than just beautiful images. I want to preserve memories that tell real stories. Whether it’s a hand-painted cake smash set or a spontaneous outdoor adventure, I aim to give families art that brings joy and emotion every time they look back.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We’d definitely start with a visit to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo. My kids and I absolutely love it, and feeding the giraffes is always a highlight. Then we’d explore some of the amazing local trails, like Red Rock Canyon Open Space, Seven Bridges Trail, and of course, the iconic Garden of the Gods. Colorado Springs is full of incredible hiking spots, and I’d want to share as many of them as possible.
In the summer, we’d take a day trip to Pueblo Reservoir for kayaking, swimming, and enjoying the sunshine. In the winter, we’d go ice skating at Sertich Ice Center or enjoy the outdoor rink at Acacia Park.
When it’s time to eat, I’d take them to two of my favorite spots: Lazy Dog, where the comfort food and fun atmosphere never disappoint, and The View House, which has amazing views, great energy, and delicious food. It’s the perfect place to relax after a day of exploring.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d love to give a heartfelt shoutout to my mom. She’s been an incredible source of support throughout my journey . She is always ready to step in when I need a babysitter and offering thoughtful input whenever I hit a creative or business roadblock. Her encouragement and willingness to help have played such a big role in allowing me to pursue my dream of building a photography business, and I’m endlessly grateful for her love and support.
