We had the good fortune of connecting with Kitra Scott and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kitra, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
I have always loved music and wanted to find a way to help the bands I love to find them an outlet to have their music played. I was offered a job to be a dj for Rock Rage Radio and it was exactly what I wanted to do!
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have a show every weekend from 10 a.m. to Noon Mountain time on www.rockrageradio.com. My show is called Rocky Mountain Rage. I play the bands that mainstream radio should be airing. It took my boss, John, over a year to convince me that I was good enough to be on radio. I am so glad I listened to him. It wasn’t easy at first. I thought no one would care or even listen to me. I was wrong. I have learned that I am actually really good at being a host. I learned that what I am doing has helped the lesser-known bands becoming well known. I do a “Who ya representing?” every day. That is where I put on a different band shirt and take a seflie and put it on various pages on social media. My main goal is to give these bands a platform. I love it when I hear that someone checks out a band just because of a shirt that I have posted.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I would take my friends to Garden of the Gods. Then we would go get a margarita or 2 at Fuzzy’s. The next day we would hang out at Meow Wolf. That place is fantastic. I would take them to my most favorite venue which is Sunshine Studios Live and have them meet the coolest metal family ever.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out John Kunz. He is the owner of Rock Rage Radio and he believed in me!!
