Meet Kristi Rowlett | Owner, Waxing Moon – A Waxing & Skin Care Salon

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristi Rowlett and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristi, let’s talk legacy – what do you want yours to be?
I’ve actually never felt a strong need to leave a legacy behind. I want to spend the one life I have spreading kindness and compassion to the people around me. Kindness is contagious and my hope is that my actions will leave the world just a little bit better by encouraging us all to be good to each other.
Being the owner and a service provider at Waxing Moon has given me a wonderful space to help spread that kindness. Whether it’s listening to my clients’ stories while they’re getting service (we joke that we’re cheaper than therapy!) or simply helping them feel good about themselves, I hope they leave the salon feeling appreciated and confident in themselves and will carry that feeling with them.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Waxing Moon offers waxing hair removal, facials, and other skin care services. I take pride in being a small, local, woman-owned business that can offer personalized service compared to the larger chain salons. I strive to create an environment where everyone feels welcome and seen. I enjoy building personal connections with my clients and making sure they receive the quality of service they deserve. The vast majority of my clients hear about Waxing Moon through word of mouth. My clients’ endorsement of Waxing Moon is integral to both the success of my business and my personal livelihood. I want every one of my clients to know how much they’re appreciated as both a customer and as an individual.
The personal sense of pride I have for Waxing Moon is knowing that I have built this successful business from the ground up. Growing up, I didn’t have any role models and was lead to believe that a professional career was beyond my reach. For me, Waxing Moon is the culmination of my passion and hard work to achieve something that I never thought was possible.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would get them out of bed in the early hours of the morning to hike up to the top of Horsetooth Rock and watch the sunrise over Fort Collins, followed by Bloody Marys and cinnamon roll french toast at The Silver Grill.
Then later, take them out for an evening of food and drink in Old Town Fort Collins. Coopersmith’s, Crown Pub, and Walrus have been iconic locations for as long as I can remember! And that’s a long time ago; I’m a Fort Collins native, born and raised!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
There are so many people that have helped me throughout this journey of starting Waxing Moon and keeping it going. First and foremost, I have to recognize my family for being patient with me as I struggled with work/life balance and all the trials and tribulations of getting a business off the ground.
I also have to thank my employees for helping me keep this place running and being my sounding board for new ideas. I would never have grown the business to where it is today without their help and support.
