Meet Kristina Trogdon | Apparel Designer/Product Developer & Fabric/Quilt Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Kristina Trogdon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kristina, every day, we about how much execution matters, but we think ideas matter as well. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I think there is a perception that quilting is only for “old ladies,” or that it is only for those into cottage core. But because my background is fashion and apparel, I feel like there is away to bridge this gap of ugly quilting into the realm of bohemian and beautiful handmade home decor.
Quilting is so much fun and very therapeutic, but is overlooked because there is a lot of wild and tacky fabrics sewn into wild quilt designs.
My ultimate goal for Quilt Verve is to bring fashion to quilting. I use my knowledge of fashion and try to blend that into more modern and unique quilt designs.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets Quilt Verve apart from other quilt and fabric designers, is that I am designing for the younger masses. So where do you shop for your bedding? My goal is to take your inspiration for bedding and home decor into your own hands, but it seems people only associate this with construction paper and glitter. I want to make these retail inspired types of designs accessible to make yourself. For example, I love Anthropologie, so my goal is to create a fabric collection in bohemian floral designs, that can be sewn into a bohemian medallion quilt.
I am still working through making my business really coming to life. It’s truly the only thing I can do for free because this isn’t easy and it isn’t making a lot of money right now.
My hope is to remove all the stigma of old lady, tacky quilting and build an audience who will be inspired to make their own projects. This is why I called the company Quilt VERVE. Creating beautiful things gives energy and life to your soul. So it’s important to me to make beautiful fabric and quilt designs.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
One of my favorite places is for food is Perfect Landing at the Centennial Airport. Amazing food, live music and you get to watch the sunset over the mountains while planes fly in and out.
I definitely make sure to stop by Black Swan Yoga, then get coffee at Kaladi and grab a pastry from Trompeau Bakery in Englewood.
Trelotta is the best place for modern fabrics.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Definitely a big shoutout to Amanda Bauer of AleeBcreative. This is the person who not only does all my tech editing for my quilt patterns, but talks me off a ledge when I feel like it’s just too exhausting to keep going amongst all the other crazy things going on.
