We had the good fortune of connecting with Lance Cayko and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lance, what makes you happy? Why?
Being in complete solitude in the wilderness is what makes me most happy. I go to the wilderness because it’s where I am free. I go to the wilderness because it’s where I am humbled. I go to the wilderness because it’s where my soul feels full.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I am most excited about the opportunity to actually make a living fishing, hiking, and being in the wilderness. Every fishing and hiking adventure that I undertake is a challenge due to the weather, terrain, and possibility of equipment failing not to mention if the fish aren’t active and not biting. It’s never easy doing what I do and some days can be completely exhausting with little to no reward. I overcome the challenges of all this by taking things one trip at a time and by simply being thankful for the opportunity to pursue my passions. I want the world to know that everyone should pursue their passions to the fullest because life is too short to waste.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would take my best friend to Rollins Pass and we’d camp near Jenny Lake. Each day we’d wake up with the sun, have coffee, a big breakfast, and then head out hiking into the Indian Peaks Wilderness for the day. The first day we’d fish King Lake, then Bob the next, then Betty, then Skyscraper Pond, and finally Woodland Lake. On the way down we’d stop in Nederland and have a big Indian Buffet supper at Kathmandu Restaurant.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to all of the fisherman who have filmed their expeditions and came before me. Particularly Aaron Wiebe, the OG of professional fishing through vlogging.
