We had the good fortune of connecting with Lark Mervine and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lark, Let’s talk about principles and values – what matters to you most?
I believe everyone deserves to feel beautiful and confident, and my goal is to help every client feel that way! I am here to celebrate my clients to the fullest! It is an honor to have the opportunity to meet and work with people from all walks of life, and I am so privileged to share such a personal experience with so many unique individuals. I love celebrating what makes you, YOU! It is so important to me that every client feels safe, welcome, respected, and appreciated. I sincerely love making a deep connection with my clients while they’re getting pampered, and I thank each and every one for trusting me, connecting with me, sharing their stories with me, and for counting on me to be their biggest cheerleader! In addition to my makeup artistry, I am also a dancer and performer. I absolutely love sharing my passions with others, whether it’s through a makeup session, lesson, or performance!
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
We are so fortunate in Colorado in that we have “wedding season” year round, but I am definitely busier with weddings from the late spring through fall months. I spend a lot of time traveling to hotels and various venues to help wedding parties feel fabulous on their special day! Every wedding to me is like it’s own Rom Com, and I get to experience each unique story full of romance, joy, and so much laughter. It is truly an amazing part of my job. I also stay busy with bridal previews prior to the wedding and individuals that need makeup for a special event or photoshoot. I am fortunate to regularly work with some local photographers providing makeup for boudoir sessions, headshots, personal and business branding photos, maternity photos, and more! As I mentioned before, I love sharing my passion with others and find that a great way to do that is through education. I am always thrilled to provide makeup lessons to all skill levels. Helping clients develop their skill set to make themselves feel their best on the daily is such a beautiful and rewarding experience. I also keep busy dancing! I have been a swing dance teacher since 2007 and spend a lot of my free time out dancing socially, as well as teaching and performing! Need help with your first dance? I love teaching couples how to nail their first dance as newlyweds!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I think Colorado has so much to offer in the city of Denver and beyond! I’d definitely recommend checking out the beautiful hiking and outdoor adventures. Matthews / Winters trail is one of my favorites because it’s only a 20 minute drive from the city and is next-door to Red Rocks Amphitheatre, which is another great place to check out if you’re into live music. Speaking of live music, I’d highly encourage a trip to one of Denver’s jazz clubs such as Nocturne or Dazzle! I love having the opportunity to see live music and would also recommend spending an evening at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts. Whether you want to see a touring Broadway show or hear the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, that’s the place to do it! While you’re in the city, be sure to check out the Mercury Cafe for a swing dance night, you might see me there! Denver has so many great culinary styles as well. Whatever your preference, there is a bar or restaurant to fit your vibe! Lastly, make sure you get up into the mountains! Colorado mountain towns are filled with more than skiing and snowboarding. We’ve got lots of natural hot spring mineral waters to spend the day soaking and relaxing, which is the perfect activity after a long day exploring!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I absolutely would not be where I am today if it weren’t for the incredible support system of other Colorado makeup artists. I became a makeup artist through a lot of mentorship, guidance, and inspiration from one of my childhood best friends, and thanks to her was introduced to a network of other encouraging artists. In addition to makeup artists, I want to give thanks to other Colorado wedding vendors, from hair stylists to photographers, musicians, and caterers; I’ve had the pleasure of meeting so many creative and dedicated individuals and business owners that are all about creating a network of friendly and talented people. I feel so lucky to live and work in Colorado because I truly feel like we have the BEST brides. I often get asked to tell horror stories of “bridezillas,” and I always chuckle because I truly don’t have stories like that. I love my brides and they are all so special and wonderful to me!
