We had the good fortune of connecting with Laura DePorter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Laura, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking
A life without risk would feel stale. I was lucky to learn early in life that risks open doors and teach us valuable lessons; and enough of these important lessons will transform our lives. I believe investing in ourselves is the best risk we can take. When my husband and I opened our startup dental practice, we immediately felt fearful of the huge risk (and debt) we had taken on. We wondered what we would do if we lost everything. We persevered by learning, working, and doing whatever it took to decrease our risk. Today, just a few years later, I am sitting inside the successful dental practice we once only dreamed of. Never let fear make your decisions!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We put our patient and team needs before all else at Mountain Ridge Dentistry. We work to help people overcome dental anxiety while providing an enjoyable, luxurious experience to every patient. Most dental practices focus on money and production, and those aspects are maybe #5 on our priority list. We believe if we treat our team and patients right, everything else will fall into place. Our practice just celebrated 2 years open, and it has not been an easy road getting here. I have learned to overcome fear, while sharpening my patience, grace, and creativity. Last but not least, I have learned to only spend calories on things within my control.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When I have friends in town, I love taking them to a Red Rocks show, a great hiking trail, and one or all of my favorite vegan-friendly restaurants! Shoutout to Linger (Denver), Azitra Indian Restaurant (Broomfield), and the Gold Leaf Collective (Fort Collins).
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to shout out Tom Terronez for being an incredible mentor and helping me overcome fear early in my career.
