We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren “Bleu” SinClair and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauren “Bleu”, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
Team purpose and unified mission. CHEER Colorado is entirely volunteer-based; all leadership, performance, and production positions are volunteer. Our volunteers are connected by a deep desire to serve the community and a commitment to teamwork and dedication to each other’s success. It’s the character and uniqueness of each volunteer that has led to CHEER Colorado’s success over the past four years. We have raised over $47,000 in the past four years that have been donated to LGBTQ+ organizations throughout Colorado, that would have never happened without all the volunteers and supporters of CHEER Colorado.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I grew up in a small town where not much ever changed. I valued change as I got older due to this. I sought out people who were different from me, new experiences, and places that changed my worldview. I have always been a helper, and so I choose a profession as a Mental Health Counselor. This work leads me to want to look more at the root causes of people’s emotional and mental distress. I then studied public policy and nonprofit administration to serve at a social level the injustice, poverty, and indifference that lead to the distress many people face daily. This leads me to CHEER Colorado. The essence of CCO is to support the LGBTQ community through the Cheer for Life Fund. CCO raises money through donations, fundraising, and performance throughout the year. At the end of each season, CCO will select a beneficiary and donate to them. I am honored to have been selected as a performer on CCO in season 3 and nominated as the Executive Director the following year. In the last year, we faced unusual challenges due to Covid, but our team is still fundraising, spreading love, and raising spirits. Our team is blessed with the most talented and professional volunteers. I can not praise them enough for their hard work and commitment to raising money for LGBTQ organizations in Colorado. One of the coolest things we discovered this year was how much spirit and cheered we can spread via the internet. We have some awesome videos and performances we have created to share with all of Colorado and the world, simply through our Facebook page. All that to say is I have been fortunate to find an organization that values inclusion, diversity, and charity that I get to volunteer with to help my community in the simple way of a cheer, dance, or fun video, all the way to meaningful donations that support other nonprofits to serve the health, wellbeing, and life of LGBTQ people of Colorado.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
My favorite place to take my friends is where I love to go. One of my favorite places is to go to Chautauqua in Boulder. It has stunning views fairly easy hikes, and the people are always nice and fun on the trail. That same day we would probably hit Pearl Street and find one of the many places to eat and have drinks. Currently, I’m loving Avante; great drinks, an awesome selection of food, and the pizza are to die for. I would probably also have to take them to big daddy bagels because it truly rivals some of the best bagel sandwiches I’ve ever had on the East Coast. Triangle Bar in Denver is, of course, a stop, and hopefully on a Sunday for Beer Bust to support a local Charity. One other place that I would love to take them is the Erie Singletrack Mountain Bike Park. Mostly downhill and great views. Super easy to have a fun, active day that’s close to Boulder. I’m also the proud mom of four dogs, So going to Romero’s K9 tap in Lafayette would also be on the list. And if you wanted to get in a good workout, CrossFit roots in Crossfit NoCoast are the best place to get a fast, effective, and friendly workout in.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Elizabeth Million Senior Vice President of Mortgage Sales Elevations Credit Union. Elizabeth had provided me mentorship, love, and encouragement throughout my career. She is the first person I seek advice from. She has provided invaluable advice for me as I grow professionally and personally into a successful leader. Her dedication to family, career, and community has shown me that it is possible to live my truth in my personal and professional life.
