Meet Lauren Winter | Interior Designer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Winter and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauren, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Because I love what I do, I tend to have workaholic tendancies! Design is so fun, and I’m constantly thinking about ideas/concepts/designs while not actively “working”.
I have two young children, so that has certainly made me re-think how I work. I like to get up early in the morning to tackle emails, before we all get up and out that door. That has allowed me to focus on tasks or designing during the day, knowing I’ll have time the next morning to answer anything that has come in. I try not to work in front of the kids so I can give them more of my focused attention. I’m not always successful at this and it’s something I have to actively work at, but I know they’ll only be young once, and they’re the most important thing at the end of the day.
I’ve also really tried to prioritize getting a workout in whenever possible. It allows me to focus so much better, and in turn helps me be more efficient! While it can be hard to squeeze in sometimes, I’ve taken the pressure of working out for an hour off, and really only try to target 20 minutes if that’s all I can manage.

What should our readers know about your business?
Our firm really strives to provide the best customer service we can. We know that a lot of our clients haven’t done a remodel before, and don’t want to make expensive mistakes. Our hope is to listen to them, and work alongside them to translate their desires into their reality! We are constantly having internal discussions of processes that we might need to tweak to make the customer experience better, and I am always trying to put myself in their shoes so I can understand how things might feel for them. We’re learning that we can’t always make everyone happy (which is hard!), but we’ll always put our best and most professional foot forward to try to help in whatever way we can.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
To host a friend in the city, I would start with cocktails at Room for Milly. The space is intimate and beautiful, and the bartenders are so incredibly knowledgeable! We’ve had a blast every time we’ve gone. We’d then walk to either the Dairy Block or Larimer Square to pop into some shops or just see what’s buzzing in the city. For dinner we’d swing over to one of my favorites, Bar Dough, for the burrata!
The next morning, we’d grab a coffee and head to the 3 Sisters Alderfer Trail for some exercise and fresh air!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’ve only been in business for about a year now, and I think often of my dad and how professional he was at work and in handling difficult situations. He has a very calm, even-keeled temperament, and I have always been amazed at how he managed people and challenges with what seemed like ease from the outside.
He has been gently nudging me to start my own business for a few years now, and his support means the world. I didn’t realize as a kid how much he was able to leave at work and truly be present with us at home while playing, coaching sports, etc. It’s meant a lot to me not just from a business perspective, but also as a reflection of our family!
