We had the good fortune of connecting with Laurie Williams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Laurie, do you have any habits that you feel contribute to your effectiveness?
Before I went to law school, I was in the Army as a counterintelligence agent. Then I worked as an intelligence analyst as an Army civilian. Transitioning from the army to a law student, working for the Dept. of Justice, and finally to owning my own law firm has been a journey marked by discipline, adaptability, and continuous learning. Some of my key habits that have helped me succeed in my legal career are:

Discipline and Time Management: My military background instilled a strong sense of discipline and time management. These skills are crucial in managing a solo practice, where balancing client needs, case preparation, and administrative tasks is essential. Setting a structured schedule and prioritizing tasks have allowed me to maintain productivity and meet deadlines consistently.

Adaptability: The dynamic nature of military intelligence work taught me to adapt quickly to changing situations. In the legal field, being adaptable means staying open to new information, adjusting strategies as needed, and embracing innovative solutions to complex problems. This flexibility has been invaluable in navigating the ever-evolving legal landscape.

Attention to Detail: Working in the intelligence field, attention to detail was paramount. This habit has carried over into my legal practice, where meticulous attention to detail is critical. Ensuring accuracy and thoroughness in my work has earned the trust and confidence of my clients.

Resilience and Perseverance: The challenges faced in the military taught me resilience and perseverance. These qualities have been instrumental in overcoming obstacles and setbacks in my legal career. Maintaining a positive attitude and staying focused on long-term goals have helped me navigate the ups and downs of running a solo practice.

Incorporating these habits into my daily routine has been key to my success as a solo attorney. They have enabled me to build a thriving practice and provide exceptional service to my clients, drawing on the skills and experiences from my time in the army.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
As an attorney that focuses on estate planning and trademark law, several qualities and approaches set me apart from others in the field. I love helping families protect their legacy. On the business side, I love working with small business to protect their brand they have worked so hard to build.

I take a very personalized approach by taking the time to understand each client’s unique circumstances, values, and goals. I believe in empowering clients with the knowledge they need to make informed decisions. By providing clear explanations and guidance, I help clients understand their options and the impact of their choices.

Additionally, my practice goes beyond traditional estate planning by incorporating holistic strategies that address not only financial assets but also personal values, family dynamics, and long-term goals. By tailoring estate plans to reflect their individual or family needs. This comprehensive approach ensures that all aspects of a client’s life and legacy are thoughtfully considered. I ensure that their legacy is preserved in a way that truly honors their wishes.

I got here today because of sheer determination and hard work. I worked for the federal government for eighteen years before I left and opened my own practice. It was not an easy decision, nor has it been an easy road. But by taking all the knowledge from the years of being in the military or working for the government, along with having great mentors along the way, has made overcoming the challenges of owning a business much smoother.

The lessons I’ve learned along the way is owning a business is not for the faint of heart. But with a lot of hard work and never giving up and working with some of the greatest clients along the way has made it worth it.

As an attorney focused on estate planning, as well as trademark law for small businesses, I want the world to know that my practice is built on a foundation of empathy, integrity, and a deep commitment to helping individuals, families, and entrepreneurs secure their futures. My journey from serving in the army to becoming an attorney has shaped my approach to legal practice, emphasizing discipline, adaptability, and a personalized touch.

My brand is centered around the belief that estate planning is not just about financial assets, but about preserving the values, traditions, and stories that define us. I strive to empower my clients with the knowledge and tools they need to make informed decisions, ensuring their legacies reflect their true intentions and aspirations.

In addition to life and legacy planning, I am passionate about supporting small businesses in protecting their brand identities through trademark law. I understand the challenges entrepreneurs face and am dedicated to providing strategic legal solutions that safeguard their intellectual property and foster business growth.

Through my work, I aim to create a supportive and compassionate environment where clients feel heard and understood. I am dedicated to building lasting relationships and providing ongoing guidance as their needs evolve. My story is one of resilience, continuous learning, and a passion for making a positive impact in the lives of those I serve.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
For coffee, I would take then to Fika or Convict Coffee in Parker. For food, I would probably go to Lazy Dog for their fried deviled eggs. For a drink, I would go to Bodega Beer Company, because of their long-standing support of veterans and non-profits.

As far as the taking in some of the sites, the Georgetown Loop, Red Rocks, the Garden of the Gods, or Pikes Peak are some of the best places to see the beauty Colorado has to offer.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
First, I want to dedicate this shoutout to my husband. Without his unwavering support, I would not have gone to law school let alone have my own practice. Then second, to my family and friends that continually believe in me and encourage me to continue on the journey of owning my own practice. I appreciate the love, support, and words of encouragement throughout the years.
