We had the good fortune of connecting with Lea Klein and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lea, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I think that a commitment to both compassion and excellence have been the most important factors behind my success. When I started my business, I knew I needed to heed the saying “Do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. By always striving to be up-to-date on research and courses pertaining to patients, and giving our absolute best to every patient sets Klein Physical Therapy above many other PT clinics as far as excellence. I wanted patients to not only experience a high quality of care, but also envisioned that they would be able to reach their provider much quicker and easier than other companies are able to. Patients receive prompt responses if they should need anything or have a question about their exercises. Compassion is very important in our field, and patients can feel when you have empathy for what they are going through. When I began to expand add more practitioners than myself, I have made sure that they also have a commitment to these values. I feel it is an honor to work with patients that have entrusted us with their care!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a physical therapist, but not everyone knows about the specialty that I fell in love with in 2007. I am a pelvic floor physical therapist. The knowledge and expertise that we have in this area sets us apart from not only other physical therapists but also other specialists treating low back and hip pain. We have a detailed understanding of the pelvic floor muscles and how they interact with our other deep core muscles, hip, pelvis and low back. I want the world to know that you don’t necessarily have to live with different debilitating conditions, and that conservative treatment is available! The many conditions we treat are: dyspareunia (pain with intercourse), pelvic organ prolapse, increased urinary urgency/frequency/retention, pudendal neuralgia, interstitial cystitis, coccydynia (tailbone pain) and other pelvic pain conditions, prostatitis, pain or leakage following childbirth, and even preparation for childbirth. I absolutely love hearing patients say how much better their quality of life is after seeing us! It certainly hasn’t happened overnight. It was only after many years of solidifying manual skills and treating the low back and pelvis that I even explored starting to treat the pelvic floor. Each year since 2007 I continue to take more courses. Someone once told me to seek progress not perfection. I just get excited every year to keep learning more new information, and I’ve enjoyed being able to help mentor my employees as well.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Denver is such a fun and vibrant city! If my friend was visiting in the winter, and everything was open without COVID happening-ha, I would definitely take them to the mountains to try out skiing, ice skating, tubing, and snowshoeing! Beaver Creek is probably my favorite ski resort, and staying at the Westin and enjoying their warm chocolate chip cookies at the end of a ski day can’t be beat! Then we would explore Denver a bit more by going downtown (Union Station and Larimer are great around the holidays!) One of the amazing things about Denver is that we have many beautiful, sunny days even in the winter to explore the great outdoors. We would end the week with a stroll (or bike ride) around the lakes at Washington Park and hit one of my favorite local restaurants, Cochino Taco, for some street tacos and a killer margarita.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Wow, there are so many people around me who have helped me along my journey toward being a business owner! It is very hard to pick just one, but I would have to give my shoutout to Clara Gelatt, owner of Pilates Collective, LLC. I have subleased from her pilates studio since the beginning of Klein Physical Therapy. If it weren’t for her encouragement, positivity, and flexibility with me entering her space, I’m not sure I ever would have had the courage to take on such an endeavor! She is an entrepreneur at heart, so I have learned a lot about being a business owner through my close interaction with her. She has treated me with nothing but kindness since the beginning, and I feel blessed to have been introduced to her.
