Meet Carrie Ankrom | Owner and operator @ City Barber Shop and Color Parlor

We had the good fortune of connecting with Carrie Ankrom and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Carrie, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks is essential. Sometimes playing it safe works but risk is what truely defines who you are. 8 years ago I started taking them. First with moving out here, then buying this shop. Then by stepping out of my comfort zone and doing fashion shows, moving the shop back downtown, and on and on… it’s been rewarding to say the least.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I have been a hairstylist for over 30 years. It wasn’t necessarily the career I’d have chosen but it was accessible to do and it chose me… I absolutely love this path.
I have struggled from being young when I started to then single mom and balancing work and kids. Then marriage and step kids added into the mix.
God has a way of sometimes placing bad things in your life so you can be better and that’s what happens. Divorce happened. Moving across the US happened. I had a no expectations attitude and jumped at every opportunity that was thrown at me.
one of the things I’m most proud of is being invited to go to Spain for International Hairdressing Awards and doing hair for Beauty Underground. It’s something I never dreamed of that could happen to a small town girl. However Buying this shop is the best decision professionally I’ve ever made. It made a great life for my kids and I and showed me just how resilient I am. Challenges come and you can face them or back down. Risk=reward!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I’d take her to Estes. It is a beautiful spot. We would walk the street and eat taffy, maybe do the gondola but definitely drive to the top and see what wildlife we could. Locally we would have to go to Casa Patron for queso and margs!!!! I’d show her around the towns of the County and our fun little Main Street districts. But ultimately we’d spend some time at Wirth Farms and Wacker Cattle! I’m sure she would love to spend as much time with my grandchildren as and great neices and nephew!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My children. I would not have had the courage to change our entire lives without them and their support.
