We had the good fortune of connecting with Leanne Duhon and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Leanne, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
Since I was young I’ve been drawn to architecture, design, interiors and have many memories of sketching homes and drawing floorplans from memory. I think I rearranged my bedroom weekly as a teenager and would often move furniture around in the living room to “surprise” my mom. I love a good design challenge, being creative, and working with people so I figured launching my own interior design business was the natural next step in my career. Working for myself allows me the flexibility to work with all types of clients with varying project scopes and goals, and not having to conform their project to a one size fits all approach.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I want people to know that my brand is founded on authenticity. Both in myself and the spaces I help clients create. My main goal in working with clients is to listen to them and learn their lifestyles and create spaces that meet their day-to-day needs. If a client is unsure of their style I take the time to ask questions to hone in on their preferences and devise a plan from there. Whether the project is a single room refresh or creating a cohesive whole house design, I want people to feel like their style and goals show in the finished product. A beautiful design doesn’t have to be all high-end products and magazine-worthy photos, but rather a functional, unique reflection of a client’s personality.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live just outside of Boulder and the view of the Flatirons as I drive into Boulder never ceases to amaze me! Touring people around this awesome area always uncovers hidden gems that I didn’t know of before! Whether you’re an outdoors enthusiast, foodie, beer lover or just want to take in the town, there’s so much to see and do. For the the adventurer I’d take them skiing at a nearby mountain, hike or rock climb at Chautauqua Park, or flyfish in Boulder Canyon. For the foodies and beer lovers, there are amazing restaurants and breweries in and around the Boulder area. We’re so close to Rocky Mountain National Park so we’d venture there and check out the wildflowers and views in summer or snowshoe in winter. No week with me would be complete without grabbing a coffee and walking around Pearl Street downtown Boulder!
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I attribute my passion for design and home improvement to my dad who never shied away from letting me use power tools and demolish walls. To this day he’s a huge supporter of my creative endeavors and still teaches me a new skill every visit. The summers in college were the unofficial start of my creative career, sparking a love of DIY, and learning different aspects of home styling and design. I flipped homes with my dad and brother and saw firsthand how hard work, a good eye, and patience can be profitable and rewarding.
