We had the good fortune of connecting with B-PHLAT’s and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi B-PHLAT’s, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
To relish and and enjoy the journey along the way no matter the circumstances.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My art is me! Because I am creative person everything I do has an artist touch to it, for example; I’m a comedian, I paint, do ceramics, interior decorate, gardening, yoga, Ima runner, DIY, hair and nails, clothing designs, sing, play the trumpet and rap!

What sets me apart from others is that I am affiliated with an NAACP image award winning podcast Twofunnymamas under which I have my own DIY podcast Tight’nUpTuesdaze where I flip shit and make it fly! I don’t think there are any other comedians out there that have a live DIY podcast that’s super entertaining, features people showing their creations from around the world and is educational. I’m most excited about my DIY podcast because I know how many people I’m touching by showcasing their works listening to their funny stories and incorporating them into my show as the People’s podcast!

I believe that I am where I am professioning in my career today first and foremost by the blessings of God, my perseverance and fortitude, and definitely my fans. I knew when I embarked upon a career as a comedian, that I would have my challenges; but that’s life so I never look at ups and downs, I just look at everything as a part of life and keep pushing towards my goals. My goal for my career is always to be my own woman, my own boss in control of my destiny and that’s where I think I’m doing a pretty good job. I give all the credit to God because he keeps me patient! I’m one of those lay low and grow people. I want people to know one thing about me; I’m like slow brew coffee, nothing instant about me . I move at my own pace, always have, I’m still loving it, so I’m sure I won’t change.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I live in Philadelphia and I have a lot of little favorite spots that I that are endearing to me and as the city has changed and grown I’m discovering a lot of new great spots. First if I had a friend coming into visit for a week, I would definitely take them downtown to South Street and explore all the eclectic shops, Philadelphia famous pizza and cheese steak spots, and a walk on the waterfront. Then we will probably eat dinner at a favorite spot of mine on the University of Penn‘s campus called the White Dog Cafe which is off the beaten path and they also sell trinkets and lovely things inside the store/restaurant . We will definitely take a trip to the plateau which is in Fairmount Park, park up, smoke a blunt, and check out the Philadelphia skyline. The next day we will probably hang downtown again and go to the Reading Terminal which is an eclectic market of over 1000 small pop-up permanent installation restaurants featuring of all kind of food from all over the world and they sell stuff in there and they’re very famous for the Amish market place and it’s a lovely spot for tours to grab great Philadelphia paraphernalia. I’m really not a hang out at night club type of person but there’s a dope cigar spot on Walnut and 19th St. that we would definitely hang out it because it’s really classy. If visiting in Philadelphia, be prepared to jump around on the subway. I love it, it’s a great way to get around and it’s a good experience for most of my friends coming from the Midwest. I’m not a mall shopper so that would not be a stop on my excursion. I’m more of a boutique person so we probably would hit 2nd Street in Old City and check out some really cute unique boutiques. Other than that, a visit with me, would definitely include a train ride down to DC to the Martin Luther King Memorial and then a hang out in New York City

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’m dedicating this shout out to Sprog, Inc., the youth organization I grew up in and also became a counselor and an art teacher. I’m shouting them out because that space, over the years, has allowed me to develop, create and stand in my art forms.
