We had the good fortune of connecting with Leigh Richards & Kate Fitzpatrick Rich Roots Flower Co. and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leigh Richards & Kate Fitzpatrick, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
We are both highly driven women who always strive to do our best. We want to ensure that our hard work is seen through the intention we use when creating customized arrangements and installs for clients.

While we balance our business we also put our families first. Each week is planned with purpose and priority, getting the most of our upcoming events as well as our family dynamics.

Lastly, we have a shared google drive that houses each invoice sent with details, all our inventory, business credentials as well as inspiration for future events and collaborations.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
With both of us being interested in home design, creating unique dried floral arrangements seemed like a win for us both. We were in the right place at the right time to have the business fall into our laps a bit. Fall of 2023 we started at the South Pearl Street Farmers Market in Denver where we started getting our new name and branding out into the world.

We then moved into custom orders for the holidays with a few pop-ups at various stores and businesses. In February we conquered our first Valentine’s Day and after that we officially felt launched and ready to provide the Denver-Metro Area with our unique style and vibe.

We have been a full functioning business for about a year now and have learned so much in that short time. One of them being how to stay orangized with our product so we have the least amount of waste possible, We have found ways to use “bits” for other arrangements so we use each stem to it’s fullest potential. On the paperwork side we have found the most efficient way to send invoices to customers that is clear and easy to understand. However, the most important one is that we have figured out how to balance our families with a fully running business and getting them involved in our growing community.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
We first would start in Downtown Golden enjoying “Where the West was Born” with its charming shops, friendly smiles and numerous food options. We have a couple spots down in Golden that also has some of our grab n’ go bouquets!
We then we would go on a hike in Clear Creek for a couple of hours and end at The Eddy Hotel for a cocktail and fun apps.

We would then move into Downtown Denver hopefully catching a Nuggets game or a concert in town followed by delicious food at Guard and Grace.

Another great spot that we enjoy are the Denver Botanical Gardens where you can walk and see what native plants and flowers grow here in Colorado.

Finally, ending at the Pearl Street Farmer’s Market in Denver-our favorite market in all the city. It has all locally owned businesses that offer the best of the best!

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We have so many people that have got us to where we are today but both our families are number 1 in supporting us.
