We had the good fortune of connecting with Lena Park and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lena, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
The beauty of working on MIXIK is that I have co-founders who are mentors, who are more experienced, and who have walked the entrepreneurial life before I have. I was more interested in the opportunity to learn from these Korean-American female entrepreneurs. I was biding my time in a transitional phase of my life when the idea for MIXIK was presented to me. It was just such a golden opportunity where I could use all of my experience in e-commerce thus far, and challenge myself further by envisioning a company that I would love to be a part of. I trusted my partners and I jumped in.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
MIXIK SKIN stands out in the competitive world of beauty for several reasons, and I’m excited to share our journey and what makes us unique. We are pioneering a new path with our all-mist skincare line, which debuted in April 2024. Our approach is revolutionary because we’ve introduced the first comprehensive mist-based regimen, designed to seamlessly fit into the fast-paced lifestyles of today’s consumers. Our journey wasn’t without its challenges. Initially, we considered entering the color cosmetics market, but the vision evolved when we saw the opportunity in skincare mists. Leveraging our network of friends in the beauty industry, who shared the latest research and developments in Korean skincare manufacturing, we pivoted towards creating a mist-based skincare line. This shift wasn’t easy, but it was driven by a clear vision and passion for bringing something new and valuable to the market. MIXIK SKIN’s debut collection includes the Cleansing Oil, Jelly Toner, Botanical Serum, and Hydra Cream, all of which harness the revitalizing properties of blue agave. Each product is carefully formulated to deliver optimal results while being vegan and cruelty-free. This commitment to ethical practices is something we are incredibly proud of. Through this journey, we’ve learned several valuable lessons. Persistence and adaptability are key in overcoming challenges. Listening to our consumers and staying true to our values of convenience, inclusivity, and ethical practices have guided our decisions and fueled our growth. At MIXIK SKIN, we aim to democratize skincare, making it accessible and easy for everyone, regardless of age, gender, or skin type. We embody a fusion of cultures and values, symbolizing inclusivity, simplicity, and quality in every mist. Our story is just beginning, and we are excited for what the future holds.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
El Five in LoHi has amazing food and city views.
Side Pony in Sloan’s Lake for coffee and a great place to work.
On a sunny day, I love walking around Sloan’s Lake Loop or hanging around Confluence Park for some sun and reading!
Red Rocks! If you can check out a show at Red Rocks, it’s a must-see. It’s a stunning natural amphitheater and they have tons of cool artists. But even just the trail is breathtaking. If you can make it in the summer, they occasionally have drive-in movies after sunset and it’s lovely.
They also have tons of cool restaurants and breweries on Larimer.
Denver Central Market is an awesome gourmet marketplace that has tons of great food options.
I’d definitely take them on the Rocky Mountain Wilderness Drive to hang with some buffalos. It’s surreal to see these big creatures relax right in front of you. It’s odd, but I love it.
For a little mountain hang, I’d take them up to Frisco. What a charming little place!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Hands down the people in my network who have helped me grow personally and professionally. I loved the idea of starting MIXIK because I wanted a chance to work with the wonderful people I have met along my journey. MIXIK had a successful launch and gained momentum because of our PR partner Six One, also based in Denver. I met Kilee Hughes by chance, and she and her team have been day 1 champions of MIXIK. Our designer Sharon Lee was so patient in guiding me through our packaging design. From pre-launch to now, I’ve met so many beauty industry veterans who have generously offered advice, wisdom, and encouragement. I’m eternally grateful to my trusting partners Sunny and Christine, who guide me and help me see the big picture. Of course, my parents, my sister, and my partner G. I don’t know how I got so lucky with people!!
